brushless shave cream anyone?

so on a whim i shaved this morning with the stuff my 12 year old charge uses on her legs.. alba moisturizing cream shave.. it's like a thick gel that smoothes on and has no lather whatsoever.. scent is coconut lime and the tube claims it's an organic blend of aloe vera, chamomile, and green tea.. ingredients list vitamin e and jojoba as well.. it also states that it is 100% vegetarian friendly and paraben free..

anyway.. it was a very nice shave.. the scent was really not my style.. it smelled like i was getting ready to hit on high school girls at the galleria or something. but the shave was very moisturizing.. it was similar to using a preshave oil to shave with.. and it took some serious rinsing to get it off my DE..

i'll be trying it again with my artist club and see how it performs.. i really enjoyed the transparency of it and i think it's a good product if you feel like skipping the brush. my only real complaint is not having a suitable aftershave to match it.. i ended up using pure aloe gel.. (nivea would have been too much, as my face was already very full of moisture) i would have really enjoyed an alcohol based splash.. but everything i have has the total opposite scent of lime coconut.. i think i'll try old spice when i use my artist club just to see how the two scents combine.

anyway.. i kinda liked the whole brushless thing.. does anyone else use brushless products.. and if so.. which ones and what are your thoughts.

Musgo Real shave cream is formulated for brushless shaving. I used to use it frequently--before I got introduced to all the other shaving creams available for wet shavers. I still do, occasionally.

i'm tempted to include musgo in my next order from westcoastshaving if i can spare the funds.. also.. i've heard of people using c.o. bigelow without a brush.. i think i'll be trying that soon as well.

I love my brushes too much to go back to a product not designed for them. Therefore brushless shaving products are a turn-off for me. But I'm still interested to hear others' opinions on them....

I have several promotional packets of high quality bush-less shave cream. They are kept in my wet pack for emergencies when traveling. Otherwise the travel brush and lather shave cream rule.

For me, using brush with soap or cream is one of the highlights in my wet shaving with the straight razor (and the double edge when circumstances require it) world. I embrace the whole ritual, from stropping to applying aftershave.

After all, this delicious ritual begins my day, much like a glorious sunrise, or a gentle rain, or a soft snow.

Not really. You can still use a brush to generate a nice lather with Musgo Real. In fact I did so a few weeks ago in an evaluation of the cushion and glide of various shave creams and soaps.

So don't despair. You can still use a shaving brush with Musgo Real. It will work just fine.

QED glycerin is perfect without a brush. Simple.

well spoken obie.. the soap and brush are also one of my most enjoyed parts of wetshaving.. i'm not sure what compelled me to try this alba product.. but i am glad i did.. i know there are times when i simply don't have the time to soak my brush and rinse and dry it afterward.. and for those times i know i have a good standby. i will of course continue with my brush.. but i would like to know what other good options are out there for me when time is limited.

I've been using a brush for so long ,I just can't imagine any other way now,but........Back in the day when I was all into skinning my top knot,I used to use a calming oil put out by Evita/Bare essentials which is a Denver based company only as far as I know. I'm sure there are such similar products out there. Probably not much help though. I might venture a guess and recommend going to a Sally Beauty supply shop (If one is nearby) which also has some mens grooming products.They might have something along what your searching for?:) Good luck

can't really say i'm searching.. i simply used the alba shave product cause it was there and itching my curiousity.. i have to say.. my face still feels very moist.. the faceturbating is very slick.. i love the way my face feels.

the reason this stuff is in the house is cause my charge uses it.. otherwise.. i don't know if i'd buy it.. it was kinda a hastle to rinse off my de.. and the scent was too bubblegum pop for me.. but my face feels great. i'm just wondering what else is out there.. i doubt i'll spend money on any of it.. i'd rather buy a nice triple milled soap.

I,m right with ya there on the triple milled soap.Have you tried SRD's custom soaps yet? They are awesome ! The West Indies Bay is sureall. It really tingles. The Lime is intoxicating. They really do a bang up job.They have a tobbaco scent that I'm very curious about ? It's supposed to be very special indeed. Just for fun last week, I tried a DE shave with the handsoap in the bathroom! I put a good dad in my hand, just like going to wash your hands, then rubbed it into my beard and went at it with the DE.

It was a suprisingly good shave actually, good and close and no pulling or irritation. The hand soap provided good glide and the only problem I encountered was a slight tendancy for the soap to dry out a bit towards the end of the shave.

It definately works in a pinch or if you're really pressed for time.

What particular brand was it? Seems I tried that once years ago, but the soap I used was kinda generic and really dried the heck outta my face. :)

i also get great shaves with dr. bronners liquid soap... i've used the almond scent for years and love it.. i does dry fast and you pretty much have to cake it on.. but it does do a damn fine job and it produces a dfs:)

as for now i'm saving my money for a puck of mwf and i also wish to finally try the bomb. i know for sure i want calypso and goodfellas... but also.. which scent is recommended for someone who enjoys almond?

i think it's either getting their hair done at a nice salon or the mani/pedi.. all the women i know seem to have their blood circulating full force on salon day.

I,ve heard good things about MWF.Someday I'm gonna shell out the dough for some. I can only wonder as to how nice it must've been back when the Straight was king and all these kinds of products were commonplace. and probably cheap for their time. I wonder what was considered the generic blade back then as well ?

i also wonder the same thing.. take a look at some of the early sears catalogs.. they were selling straights by the dozen.

It was a lavendar soap that SWMBO got from Space:NK. Its a pretty good soap TBH, but still not up to the standard of Trumpers or MWF.

The Bodega has a nice almond tone included with the cedar. For someone who dislikes cedar I really enjoy the bodega. Also you can pm al and ask for a custom fragrance.

Only ever tried one, hackett, and it was awful.

I have used brushless cream with a straight before, it's ok, but not the best.
Although, today I used it as a pre-shave and it was fantastic, lots of glide.

Oh, and Nightblade, the SRD Opus X (Tobacco scent) Is amazing.
I love the smell to it, sweet, but a little bit spicy.
Very interesting.

I first tried this about ten or fifteen years ago whilst using cartridges. I'd run out of foam-in-a-can so gave the handsoap a go (just applied with fingers, no brush) and promptly put several good slices down my face from far more glide than I'd ever experienced.
I took more care next time, and found it so much better than the canned crap that I used it daily up until a few months back when I started straight shaving.
Will give it a go with the straight once I've more experience. I've actually been tempted a few times, but the memory of the inch-and-a-half stripes I left on my face last time has caused prudence to win-out so far.

...where you can get MWF refill pucks for about $6.55 USD a piece - with shipping on one puck running about $4.40... and on 3 pucks ~$7.95.

Even with shipping, still a fair bit less expensive than most other places - especially if you pick up 2-3 refill pucks instead of just one.

As for brushless shave cream, my wife got me a Lucky Tiger Organic kit (by Caswell-Massey) for Christmas that contained brushless cream, after shave tonic, face wash, and face moisturizer...

The shave cream works well both with and without a brush. Not quite on par with TOBS, Harris, etc. but pretty decent. Decent for traveling - bottle is a little big (about size of a deodorant stick) but still better than full-size tub of cream, and no need to pack a brush.

and how is the scent on the lucky tiger? i love their bayrum

im not sure if you have a lush soap shop in your area, but the shave creams the have are brushless also.

I havent tried them but i have heard of good things about them.

i have used the "king of the mods" hair product before and love it.. i hadn't thought about the shave creams.. they're probably a bit more pricy than i'd like.. how are the scents? i may be mistaken.. but i recall the scents being really odd.. things like peanut butter and other oddball scents.

WOW....I can't imagine walkin round smellin like peanut butter ?? :) That would be different.

ok.. i just looked them up.. they have orange blossom and ambrosia.. also something called 'shave the planet'.. it doesn't really describe a scent.. but it's got rosehip, goji berries, acai, bamboo.. overall it just looks nutty..

also.. i was right in thinking about the price.. i can't see myself shelling out $23 for a brushless cream..

ok.. i really am an idiot.. this is about the 4th time i've read this and now i realize that you state the shipping costs.. that is a good deal.. is the ceramic bowl for $30 included with a puck? i believe the bowl/puck combo is $35 at westcoastshaving.com .. and i am ofcourse on the westcoast.. i figure.. why waste the gas?

I use Avalon organics brush-less shave cream when I'm strapped for time and shave in the shower with my DE. It works very good. Use very little or the razor will just slide off your face!

I had a friend who used Noxema Face Cream as a brushless shaving cream and i tried it several times. It gave a great shave,

i remember hearing about that before too.. noxema is supposed to be very moisturizing

Victor, can you post a link to your lady's brushless product? I think my girlfriend would like to try it. Actually I mean I would like to try it.
