I've never seen a Glycerin based soap that held half a candle to a good English triple Milled Soap.
Hmmmmm
Not seeing the answer I want up there Al so I will try and explain here instead...
I like only some of the "Glycerin Based" soaps (Yes I know what you meant by that question)
I find most, do not hold up to my "Wicked Well Water" (hehe new name for it)
The exceptions are:
SRD's soaps
Honey Bee Spas
Ogallala Formula II
and believe it or not
Col.Conk Amber
Now with a Uberlather mix the others will work too
The only Tallow based I know I have used for sure is
Prairie Creations... but everyone should double check before ordering when they will get their soap, and some people just don't get along with this stuff...
I have tried quite a few other soaps honestly, From MWF to Velobra Soft soap and even Williams... I can't say I disliked any of them some are better but every single one did as advertised and provided a slick lubrication between the blade and my skin...
I personally think the real difference between a good soap and great soap is how it conditions your face after your done shaving.. About 1 hour later do you feel your face and go "Wow that feels soft" if not then it was just a good soap :D...
In general more hard milled soaps do this for me then "Glycerin Based"
I hope that helps....
i enjoy how easily they lather, the low cost, the huge variety of scents, and the availability...
but i prefer the triple milled stuff
As long as it lathers to MY standards I don't really care what the base ingredient is.
I'm nonplussed over the popularity of glycerine based soaps, particularly Mama Bear's. I ordered a packet of 7 samples from her of various scents of shave soaps. While they all lathered up quite well, the scents were frail and far from the orgasmic descriptions I've read. Moreover, they were no where near as slick or cushy as my top vote-getter, the Gentlemens Best Signature. If I were to use only one soap for the rest of my life, I would gleefully shave with that one, IMO.
