Okay,
Plain and simple....I LOVE IT! Everything about it...once you know how to use it, it will make a rich and creamy lather like no other, and I can't get over the smell of it. It is so nice I have a puck of it in my shower that I lather my body with as well. Anyone out there share this love as much as I do? Oh ya, Who can beat a $1.21 a puck too!

I saw nothing wrong with your post. Most of the questions asked on SRP have already been asked many times before. Those people were not shut down and I see no justification for you to be treated this way. We happily repeatedly answer the same questions over and over.
I used Williams soap for over twenty years. I had nothing with which to compare it, but it worked just fine for me. After finding SRP, I started exploring other soaps. I admit that they are different, and for the most part I consider them to be better, but I still can get a perfectly functional lather and shave from it.
I think you get what you pay for with williams....

+1 for Utopians manners.I was a Williams user before getting on this forum and becoming a serious straightshaver.It served me well and faithful and was way more affordable than canned goo.If you like Williams,then You might want to start exploring other soaps and giving them a try.True they are more expensive,but they last far longer actually than Williams or canned stuff and the return is well worth it.You might look into either Mitchells Wool fat or SRD"s line of shaving soaps for a starter.Welcome to SRP and apologies for your newbie treatment.:)
We don't mind a thread about Williams soap. All topics, within reason are welcome.
I have an old case, well, 12 pack of Vintage Williams soap, and keep a puck in a mug for old times sake. I actually prefer it over some of the Artisan offeings.
I'll have to pull this one out again, just cause I dig the picture and the commentary seems appropriate. FWIW, I dig Williams

On behalf of SRP and all that e stand for let me appologise to you for your earler treatment from some of the boys, We do not act like this to new members i promiss. As you may know it was just scarcasm. Noone on here is serious when they give people a hard time. I have used willams and vanderhagen (mainly becaue im 15 , have lil facial hair and i dont like spending much on soap) But i have nothign bad to say about willams soap if you dotn mind whiping it up for a bit longer its nice. Again im truly sorry that you and ur question were not treated so well.

Now now guys, lets not get over sensitive and start apologizing needlessly over and over again over some perceived slight; no one was being mean to anyone, and since this is the internet and all I suppose jokes and sarcasm don't really translate well into writing. C'mon, I did say "no offence", didn't I???
That being said, at the risk of this turning into yet another Williams love fest I'll continue my quest to turn people on to the good stuff; Williams is the best soap you can buy... for $1.60, which really says a lot. There are so many infinitely better soaps and creams out there to stick with Williams for long, and once you try them the cheap stuff will be but a distant memory. Just trying to broaden some horizons here...
Your points are all very well taken. As has been very well documented on this very site, I'm a huge fan of both Williams and VDH and have had great luck with both. Even though both are consistent performers, I must admit that neither is the best soap ever. I've used lots of better soaps but conversely I've used more expensive stuff that wasn't as good. Like anything else in the shaving world YMMV. But for affordable stuff I can have in my hand in an hour or less, I'll go with Williams or VDH every time.
A great inexpensive shave soap is called Bairlea farms. A friend recently sent me a puck, and this stuff is awesome. It quickly provided gobs and gobs of rich creamy lather with little or no effort, and stayed put while I stropped. This is rare for an Artisan Soap offering, and this stuff performed a hell of a lot better than many of the other "hyped" stuff....Give it a try.
I may just one day buy some of that expensive stuff just to try, and i may buy come shavign cream one day just to try it.ive never used the canned cream or a disposible razor before, i learned using this site and my late grandfathers wetshaving stuff (straight, mug,brush,)
I currently own 28 pucks of Williams... When the zombie apocolypse happens, I know I can continue to get good shaves.
Sure, I own soaps that are much better in terms of lather, cushion, and glide. But... I can still get a good shave from my Williams.
Wow! Even in my days of using just Williams, my soap pucks lasted between 5 and 7 years. Your stash would last me over 150 years. If my stem cell/immortality plans work out, I'll buy some of those pucks from you!Quote:

Well, your thread motivated me to use my Williams soap tomorrow morning.
Being a strict puck guy, Williams is still one of my go to soaps... and I can remember seeing probably at least a good half a dozen threads on it over the years.

The Williams is a fabulous soap — for the money.
Let's face it, what can you get these days under two bucks? It does the job, yes, and some think a great job, while others blow out a sour breath and shrug.
I used one puck of it a long long time and then moved on without looking back. Between Williams soap and where I am now rests an impressive lineup of great soaps. I hope to find more.
If you like Williams and want to stay with it, I heartily encourage you to do so. If you feel it does the best job for you, who am I to dispute your decision?
For me, I am looking forward to adding Tabula Rasa to my already loaded stash of soaps and creams.
That's why I consider this whole wet shaving thing The Sweet Obsession.

My post was not meant to discomfort you. It was directed to those of us who have been around long enough to see the whole Williams antiWilliams threads take on a life of theirnown and go careening off into strange places. Nothing seems to energize our brothers more then this innocuous, quotidian little puck of tallow.
For what it is worth, I do pull out my Williams on occasion, and Inuse it as a touchstone to see how my lathering skills are developing, or not. I have on occasion gotten a great lather from it, though for the life of me I cannot reliably reproduce that result.
My ramblings were meant to amuse, not put down. Sometimes my sense of humor can be hurtful, but it was unintentional. I am glad you enjoy the Williams, and I believe you will find others that please you more.
I find VDH makes better lather and Williams gives a better shave so today I mixed the two. It was great. I have not used the nicer soaps yet but want to soon.

I definitely can relate to this. Officially, diagnostically, I am autistic. I think that is complete BS, yet I very often severely offend when I have no intention of doing so. In my case, I consider a more accurate diagnosis for me is that I am an *sshole, and many have confirmed this.Quote:

While I'm not the biggest fan of Williams, I did pick up a puck of it at the local Chemist, Drug Store .... whatever, any way, it was only 99cents and for that I could do little wrong. I do mix it with some shaving cream I had in the back of the cabinet, Palmolive green. and between the 2 of them, not a bad shave, and with the scent of lime not less!!!! But some other soaps have my heart though, SRD's house brand in Bay Rum for one.
Proraso's Soap or Cream to mention a few.

I've never seen Williams soap for sale here in England. I remember their aftershave though, back in the 60's, and it was nice!
I have just watched a demonstration of lathering up Williams on YouTube. The bloke had pressed it into a coffee mug and poured about a quarter of a pint of hot water on top, which he then proceeded to tip down the sink.......
Three minutes of anxious swirling directly on the puck then followed, before transferring to his palm for a bit more...... and the result (he must use a puck a week) would just about have sufficed for my rooster's top lip. Oh dear, deary me.
