i know certain members here have set aside an entire week at some point or another to really judge a soap.. lately it seems like whenever mitchell's shows up in the rotation i am getting less than steller results. perhaps my woolfat skills have been forgotten or something..
anyway.. i am going to use strictly mitchell's for a solid week and see if i can get back some skills.
who else ever does this and what is usually learned or observed?
well i have tried about 12 different soaps and was not happy with them so i got started trying to make my own ,and about 20 batches later i got it right and have been uesing it ever since, about 6 months havent hade a better soap.

I've only got one type of shave cream:dropjaw:, Truefitt and Hill Trafalgar. I use it daily and love the results. That being said, I have some MWFS in the post from the UK. Is there a trick to using MWF?

Whenever I get a new soap or cream I will routinely use it exclusively for a week straight. It really helps to discover the product's particular quirks, and to fine tune your lathering techniques to get the most out of it.
Furthermore, when I used to have fewer soaps and creams my rotation would last a week at a time. I had it in my head that my sensitive skin would like a weeks rotation rather than switching products every shave. Well, you know how things go - the collection gets too large to ignore your other products for so long.... plus I discovered that my skin CAN tolerate change every shave. Needless to say I switch it up every time now :)

as an update.. it seems like my face just became spoiled with all the french soaps i normally use.. having so much shea butter buildup seemed to make me immune to lanolin..
after 3 days of the fat.. i started to get good shaves again..
also.. most french soaps require very little product.. mwf requires quite a bit in comparison.. i simply wasn't loading the brush enough and not working it in..
i've come to the conclusion that woolfat doesn't like to be ignored.. use a lot of it.. often.. and you'll be good.
You want some skills? Use some Berts Bees for a week and if you can get good lasting lather from the stuff you'll be a lathering fool and can lather anything.Quote:

i love the scent of burt's bees bay rum line.. i had used the soap with a vdh brush and a mach3 for many years before really picking up the wetshaving passion.. i'd probably buy another puck if i could find one for a reasonable price.. may have to uber it though.Quote:

It takes a couple days for the skin to react or not react to a product.
Hard soaps like Mitchell's do seem to like being used
a couple days in a row. Perhaps it is previous soaps

One hard milled shave soap that does care is the AOS
(art of shaving) hard soap. It is a stealthy soap but a good one once I got
serious about using it.
So many good and great shave soaps.... and only one face...
I have so many soaps and creams that at the beginning of this year I devoted my shaving to using just 1 product until finished.
It lets you get to know the soap well and also whether it is worth replacing when done. So far I've been through 2 pucks of soap, 1 tub of cream, and 1 shave stick. Speick stick is the only one of those 4 I'll replace.
I honestly don't really miss the huge rotation I had. Now it is more of a goal to finish that puck and move on to the next.
I tend to use one soap or cream till finished. Now it is a stick of Arko: best VFM ever IMHO. Still have quite a lot of Proraso on the shelf that will have to go before I'll buy something new.

I did a little over a month with nothing but Williams. I got it to perform quite well.
Lately I've been using nothing but Bairlea Farm, but that's not as an experiment. I just really like the soap.
