When I started wet shaving I saw a video on uberlathers. I tried it with VDH soap and Real cream, it gave a real nice lather and I thought all was good. This morning I used MWF with a sample of Trumpers GFT. WOW, what a difference. That got me to thinking what others use to make uberlather. So what is it guys, what is your recipe for the ultimate uberlather?
I hardly ever use it myself, but I know that MWF and Tabac cream has been great for me.

Here are some of my favs
Tabac soap with tabac cream
Mwf with musgo real
Dr Harris soap with dr Harris cream
Qed sandalwood soap with trumpers sandalwood cream
better products... :p
Still to this day there best I have used is MWF/Musgo Real/5 drops Glycerin
The Kiss My Face Shave Creams are pretty much the most universal mixer I have found...
Velrobra Soft soap / Red Proraso Cream/ 5 drops = Mambo Italiano
TOBS Lavender soap / CF Lavender cream / 5 drops = British Garden
There is a little shop in Portland that has Organic soaps their mix is one of the most skin conditioning Ubers I have ever used

Also the SRD Bulgarian Rose soap / Cyril Salter Rose cream / 5 drops Uber is awesome
Some Ubers are fantastic, others are only OK... Experiment and find out what works for you, I have problems with my well water up here so I have experimented quite a bit but the recipes I have might not work quite as well for you...

You can make Übber with every soaps and cream, have fun!!
Trumpers hard soap and CF cream - both sandlewood - has worked well for me, although I've recently forgone the glycerin...
Also Tabac and Proraso is an interesting match....
I used to like Body Shop Macca root and Evelyn and Crabtree Nomad with glycerin, but now I really like Speick with the Nomad. TOBS Eton College and Truefitt and Hill Trafalgar with the Nomad work good too. But I like the ideas above, esp the Tabac and Proraso mix (v interesting) and DOOM's idea. This has now prompted me to mix more creams at the same time, I think Eton College and Trafalgar will go nicely together...or maybe Eton College and Macca Root...

I'm the same as B, I rarely use Ublerlather but on the odd occasion I do its with Trumpers sandalwood soap, cream and skin food. Works great!
The SRD soaps also play very well with others so I've used their sandalwood with the trumpers cream and that works well too.
I have a water softner, so I rarely Uber, but when I do, it's Gssixgun's MWF + Musgo Real + 5 drops of Glycerin. Great stuff.....and
It is fun to experiment.
Hello, whavens: I uber lather only with some of my older soaps of lesser quality, because, unless they are a disaster, I have a hard time getting rid of them. The quality soaps I buy perform admirably on their own and I don't see the need to mess with them. Somehow I can't see tampering with, say, Martin de Candre, Provence Sante, Mitchell's Wool Fat, or a number of other quality soaps. Adding Arko cream and glycerine to Martin de Candre is like trying to replace the hood on the Lamborghini with one from a Ford Focus. On the rare occasions that I do uber lather, however, I use a small amount of Arko cream with five or six drops of glycerine.
I've been playing with the Trumpers samples and MWF and C.O. Bigelow. Think I will buy a few more creams.
I mixed Proraso soap and Musgo Real this morning (with glycerin of course), a nice mixture.
MB Crypre Rose+Bomb.oakmoss+bergamot+arko cool.
The combination of those different smells whit a little cool from the Arko. Wunderbar!!!!
Penhaligons English Fern + Palmolive Classic Cream (Euro) + Glycerin. Very very nice
One of my favorite übers is Williams Mug Soap+Palmolive Lemon+5 drops of glycerine. Perfect lemony scent for those warmer days.
What brand glycerin works best?
As long as it is food grade glycerin it won't matter. Whatever they have at cvs, walgreens, rite aid, etc.Quote:

I undertand that the idea, beyond getting hard water to lather, is also to get some of the benefits of both tallow and glycerine soaps. That would be why you add a cream to a soap. I also understamd that you can shave tallow hard soaps to re-shape them into a new container, and melt hard glycerine soaps. What would happen if you melted the glycerine soap into the tallow soap? Woud it be like an uberlathering hard soap? Would you get the best of both worlds, or just a lumpy hard soap?
I ask this because, besides general curiosity, I like to bring the little luxuries of home with me when i travel, but glycerine & cream & soap takes up a lot of space. If one could condense them all into a single package, it would certainly be easier to pack.
Cella+ Vulfix english rose+ 3 drops glycerine= :) wife
Proraso green tub + Vulfix sicilian lime + 3 drops glycerine= great shave on hot day
Proraso green tub + Speik+ 5 drops glycerine= very relaxing cool shave
Lots of good recipes already, I'll add my favorite. L'occitane soap with L'occitane cream and water. The lubrication on the face, the conditioning of the skin and the smell is just awesome IMO. It's my favorite smell and skin conditioner of any of the others premium soaps or creams I have ( tabac, Martin de Cadre, MWF, Castlle Forbe cream). The soap is lacking by itself, and the cream is a brushless cream, but together they are very good. I load the brush with soap (like normal), squeeze a peanut size cream from the tube to a mixing bowl (scuttle) add few drops of water with the hand and mix. Enjoy!
To be honest, I never quite saw the point in 'überlather', except in cases where you really love the scent of one product but find the performance lacking.
That is really the only reason I would consider good enough to mix, apart from "I really enjoy mixing stuff", which is fair enough as well, it's your shave. For me, if any product requires to be 'überlathered', there is something wrong with the product (for me anyway) and it's not going on my face.
But hey, whatever floats your boat.
I used MWF and Prorasso Red the other night and it was very nice!
Speick and Kiss My Face Cool Mint was a favorite mix of mine when I first started wet shaving with a DE. It was slick and fragrant. It seemed to help prevent skin irritation while I learned the proper razor technique.
I love the smell of Prorasso green but find the cold face effect from the menthol a little overpowering so I uberlather it with some Williams.
Something I've always wondered about uberlathers- so I understand adding pure glycerin, it adds more of the lathering ingredient into the lather, but if you add Proraso red and MWF or tabac and mama bears or X and Y, does it really increase the performance of the resulting lather? I'm not doubting... Would it increase the power of your lather if you mix a glycerin soap such as mama bear's and a tallow soap like mike's, do you end up with a, well, uh, uberlather? :)
These days I'm really enjoying Mike's Natural Pine and Cedarwood soap mixed with Tabac cream. Very very creamy...
When mixing products, you will mix ingredients and characteristics, just those of both products in a watered down version. It really all depends on what products you use.Quote:
