So far not having much luck finding a soap that keeps a good lather. My GF owns her own salon business. She talked to the supply house and they said Tea Tree Body Bar Soap Paul Mitchellhttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg
can be used for shaving.
Does not leave a lather that stays. Feels all tingly.
Used Williams with a few drops of glycerin but not very good. Is it me?
Well, first you need to use a quality soap not a body soap. Check our reviews for good brands to check out. Maybe try a cream they are pretty much fool-proof.
Otherwise, tell us more about how you lather.
My shave starts with washing my face. Hot water. A little olive oil on face worked in. Then using my brush that has been sitting in hot water I collect soap. I use my shaving mug to make lather. I can make good lather but starts to go away. Have to add lather to my face over and over.
There's lot's of quality shave soaps and creams on the market. Check out SRD. They have a ton of different soaps and creams to choose from. They also have their own brand of shave soap, it's a top performer.

I always have to qualify any of my input on soaps/creams - eliminating scent as a variable. What a person likes to smell is so variable you can see the curvature of the earth between people's preferences.
Perhaps a somewhat different take on 'finding' a good sudser - take note of other members who have a skin/beard combination similar to your own. What they rate highly stands a better chance of doing well for you. I pay alot of attention to Obie's recommendations. Not all were stars for me, but most are.
My skin/beard is a mixture of avg toughness/density and med. heavy (below mouth line, as is common). A few sections of sensitive skin, but avg in most places. My experience w/ creams is limited, but I've had pleasing results w/ Castle Forbes, TOBS (I'll keep some of this around always), and WARS (no longer made). For soaps, my hands-down fav is Obie's recommended Provence Sante. If you new to hard french soaps, it takes a bit to get your brush loaded, but the suds are wonderful. I've tried about 8 others, but this is the only one that stands out, and its very reasonably priced.
Obie speaks highly, as do others of MWF, so that will be on the next order, as will Tabac.
Most don't realize how greatly water effects soap/cream. It effects the soap as much as preferences.
Today I went to The Feast of the Hunter's Moon. It is a 2 day event that recreates colonial and Indian times. I was looking mostly for the way they shaved back then. I found one tent that was selling shaving soap. It was in s tin. Nothing written on the tin but ingredient.

palm oil
castor oil
shea butter
bentonite clay
goats milk
distilled water
sodium hydroxide
Shave with it when got home. Nice later that stays. Very slick. Face very soft after shave. Pleasant smell. Cost 6 bucks.
We recently had a post talking about soap with clay in it and the opinion was it isn't that great. Also, a lot of oils in that soap.
You really should get one of the recommended soaps and you'll see a big difference.
So whats not so great about the clay? Also, what big difference will I see? I actually thought this one had a great lather and the oils in it are good for your skin.
Nothing necessarily wrong with the clay as it does provide slickness. However, when comparing readily available soaps with clay to readily available soaps without clay the stuff without clay, IME (as well as a few other more knowledgeable folks around here).Quote:

Hello, Crazy8days71: As my friends have recommended, get yourself a good shaving soap. In my experience, some artisan soaps found at fairs and some stores are good, but many, although made of quality products, are below par for gentlemen shavers. Here are some suggestions for the quality soaps I have tried. Not all will be to your liking, but I hope many will.
Provence Sante, L'Occitane, Pre de Provence, Institute Karite, Mitchell's Wool Fat, Tabac, Cella, Mama Bear, I Coloniali, and Valobra. Truefitt & Hill, Geo F Trumper, D.H. Harris, and Taylor of Old Bond Street all produce quality soaps.
So you see, my dear friend, there is a lot of good stuff to choose from.
I'll put in my vote for Provence Sante, MWF, and Bald Frog Soaps from Mastershake on this forum.
Provence Sante smells good enough to eat. MWF leaves my skin feeling amazingly smooth and supple. BF soap lathers great and provides all the slip and cushion you need at a damn good price.
