So I have my georgetown pottery scuttle and am loving it.
when I shave, I pour boiling water into it and into the bowl to charge while I am in the shower (I also dunk the brush)
when I get out I dump the bowl but leave the "chamber" of the scuttle filled.
My question is, is this water too hot? Seems to be comfortable for me, but I sometimes wonder if it's making it harder to build lather....
Experiment. I use near-boiling water in mine, then it cools some before I actually start lathering because I shower. It might hurt my lather, but usually I do alright.

I have the same scuttle.....depending on how hot your tap water is it may be alright OR I'm gonna try to charge mine with boiling water then refill with HOT tap water.....YMMV but my tap gets rather hot!
Also do you strop pre or post shower?? I found doing it post after applying my preshave it allowed more time for the water to cool b4 starting a lather again YMMV I also found it depends on the cream or soap i use.
I also have a G5. I fill it with hot water from the tap both chamber and bowl and then I shower, letting my brush soak while I do. When I'm ready to shave I dump both the bowl and chamber and refill the chamber with hot tap water again and this seems to work well for me. You dont want it too hot with the lather sitting in there as too much heat will dry out/degrade your lather. Hope this helps :)
As jdto stated. Experiment. I have a couple smaller scuttles I fill with room temp and nuke for about a minute 15 then I have a larger rbecker that I do for a minute 45 sometimes even two minutes. The issue with the boiling water is you can speed up how quick the lather dry's out then you'll just be left with a scuttle full of gum...which doesn't work too well for shaving.
