Are you more of a natural scent or cologne scent soap/cream user?

By natural scent I mean rose, lavender, violet, almond, coconut, lime, sandalwood and similar vs. something like Truefitt's 1805 and similar.

I've always opted towards the former but have received both from GFT and T&H samplers that have let me try their creams in the cologne (if that's even the correct term) scents. I've tried GFT and 1805 so far and while I think they smell just fine, I find myself more interested in their natural scents. How about you? I do understand that some of the *natural* scents from some makers are still considered a little cologney (like, perhaps, TOBS Sandalwood?).

I think the "unnatural" ones are really combinations of natural scents as opposed to say a pure lime. I don't know that I ever heard of a pure synthetic scent. Maybe the contents are natural or not but what they are trying to convey should be some natural bouquet.

I've never really thought about it consciously (as far as classifications go) - if it smells good to me, and performs well, it stays in the rotation.

Just a few simple scents are for me. AoS Sandalwood, AK 1869 mandrolla, and not much more. Complex scents are a world apart. I love to close bathroom door, open cream's can and the clock stops. From this moment you're the king of a very little kingdom, but it's all yours.
Simple scents are classified for my nose. Lemon, for example is a "cleaner" scent for me, roses are a "air freshener" and the most of almond ones are just "marzipan". Hope you understand what I mean...

Natural or synthetic, for me it doesn't matter as long as it smells nice and works well.

If I have razor burns or a dry skin after the shave I use Eccelente, a calm moist concentrate mask. This is made of moisturizing ingredients and soothing extracts of aloe, camomile, grapefruit and blueberry.

In all other cases I use Acca Kappa 1869.

Both are not cheap but effective.

Well my girl is in total love with Drakkar. So naturally I use Mama Bears Drakkar shave soap. Now when I'm scenting just for me??? I will use a unscented soap and use witch hazel as an aftershave and apply Czech & Speake's frankinsence and myrrh cologne. I wish they made a shave soap that smelled like it but I'm not a fan of their 88 or Oxford

The scents used in soaps and creams are the same as those used in colognes. The "fragrance" of the cologne is simply a combination of essential oils and/or aroma molecules or "notes".

Drakkar Noir Guy Laroche cologne - a fragrance for men 1982:
"Top notes are rosemary, artemisia, lavender, basil, lemon verbena, bergamot and lemon; middle notes are coriander, carnation, cinnamon, juniper and jasmine; base notes are leather, sandalwood, fir, amber, patchouli, oakmoss, vetiver and cedar."

That is why I prefer to use "unscented" soaps and creams. That way I can simply add whatever fragrance I want whether it be a essential/fragrance oil (natural scent?), a favorite cologne or even leave it "unscented".
