Any of the RazoRock soaps would be great. I would also suggest the Arko and Palmolive shave sticks.
DR Harris and MWF are great hard soaps, and pretty much any soft italian soap on the market is good. In cheap soaps, Arko stands out, IMO.
Ok, I'll be first. Tabac is one of my favorites, so you have a good soap to compare these others to. Cella, MWF (Mitchell Wool Fat) and MNS (Mike Natural Soap), These are the ones I have tried that would stand to Tabac. If you want creams, then Casttle Forbes Lime is, to me and others, the standard. Double O
You got to be kidding with an opening like that.
To cut down on the multitude of posts somewhat tell us what kinds of soaps you like; scents, consistency, ease of lathering, etc.
Try em all and then sort them out. That may take awhile and a chunk of change, so check out the 57 pages of this thread for suggestions.

^^^ what he said :)
You are never going to get a simple answer to your question, unless you first ask yourself what do you want to get out of it: do you want great scent for summer/winter? do you just want something that offers a close, smooth shave? something that's moisture-rich? etc, etc.
I went to the big ones right away, DR. Harris, Truefitt & Hill and Taylor Of Old Bondstreat and I love them all.
Soak the puck in the bowl and the brush while showering, pour ½ teaspoon of the soapy water from the puck to your mixingbowl.
Shake the brush so it´s just damp and then swirl away for 30 sec on the puck and from there go to the bowl.
All these soaps will lather like crazy and fill the room with great smells.
Happy shaving.......
I love TABAC soap as well so like the others said it s a great start. Other soaps I would recommend are: MWF, Cella, D.R. Harris Lavender and finally Crabtree and Evelyn Nomad.
I purchased a tub of Truefit and Hill Sandlewood shave soap and aftershave balm and I love it. I also got a new Edwin Jagger shave scuttle.
MasterMason, my friend, you ask a big question. Let me see if I can give a big answer:
Martin de Candre, Provence Sante. Savon du Midi, Joris, Institute Karite, Trumper, Truefitt & Hill, Taylor of Old Bond Street, Mitchell's Wool Fat, Scottish Fine Soaps, Klar, Cella, La Toja Manantiales, eShave, Spanish Fig, D.R. Harris, Penhaligon's, Valobra, Fume, Arko, Dr. Dittmar, Dr. Selby, Mike's Natural Soaps, Mama Bear, SRD . . . I'm running out of breath. You will do well with any of them.
That is a big question. I'm normally a shave cream guy, so a soap has to really impress me.
Some of my favorites, in no particular order are:
Martin De Candre, DR Harris, Pre de Provence, Any of SRD's soaps, Mama Bears, Prairie Creations, Nanny's, Mitchell's wool fat, L'Occtaine, P160, Czeck and Speake 88.
Now, if you want to venture into shave creams:
Xpec
Castle Forbes
Truefitt and Hill
Taylor of old Bond st.

I guess it's actually cream but I just took a flier on Taconic Tequila Lime and find it whips up to a great lather with a very pleasant scent.
Just got some TOBS sandalwood and proraso myself. They havent let me down.
I've also herd Mama Bear's soap in pretty reliable, and they are reasonaly priced too. Looking into getting some of those next, myself
YOU ONLY NEEED ONE SOAP AND ITS Martin de Candre!!!!!
Martin de Candre FOR LIFE and THAT IS IT! dont need NO other soaps!

But on your own terms, meaning look into what you buy to make sure. Don't just throw away money because everyone is suggesting brands.
Just look for one that tickles your fancy, I think, and don't be too quick to judge the soap -- a lot of it is the user.
I'm a couple of months into the practice. First soap I got was DR Harris. Seemed rich and smelled nice. Seemed to have the necessary qualities. But my razor tended to get stuck and skip. So I branched out and found a cream-type to mix in, and shaving got better so I thought that must be it. I didn't want to experiment anymore. Then this morning I decided to go back to the DR Harris all by itself.
Well, the previous "deficiencies" in the soap seemed to be gone! My first shave that I would claim to be BBS. The soap hadn't changed, but in the course of a couple of months I guess I learned a few things about shaving and mixing up lather.
So I'm going to try different things and not be so quick to decide what "works on my face"
I’ve used George F. Trumper Glycerin Shave soap in Almond Scent for about 20 years and love it. I give it 5 stars. I should probably try some other soaps but I’ve been so satisfied with the Trumper I just stuck with it. It’s availabe at straightrazordesigns.com
Favorite soap,.......?
Under which letter of the alphabet?
Just trying to be funny.....:rofl2:
Castle Forbes
Wholly Kaw

Read the Thread “First Tier soaps and Creams”. That’s a great resource.
This morning I used for the first time Mens Soap Sandalwood. Loved it. Great lather very slick. I paid l$12.99 after shaving the puck just a bit it fit nice and right in my old spice mug. Great soap for the money. I still like Harris and Tabac.
This mornings shave was with Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Soap. Got a thick lather pretty quickly. Is slick and feels nice. No problem with drying on my face.
My favorite has to be Cella, then comes Mitchell's wool fat.
