Im almost out of my wilsons shaving soap and am looking for one that has a scent. Ive heard about bay rum but have no idea what is smells like. Can someone describe the scent to me? I was also looking at almond too but wasnt sure if it actually smelled like almonds. Thanks
That's a loaded question, kinda like asking what a lemon smells like :)
There's many different Bay Rum scents out there, but in general it smells like spice and cloves and not like actual rum. Some are more complex than others. I don't have any Bay Rum scented soaps but I hear Ogallala makes one that is very true to the scent.
BTW - I have DR Harris Almond shaving soap, and it DOES smell like almonds. Fantastic product.
To me bay smell like the spices that is put into spiced rum. So cloves and cinnamon and sometimes a hint of sandalwood if your lucky. I enjoy the smell.
I think i will buy both because they are only about 5$ each for the 2 1/4 ounces ones from col conk.
Careful on that Bayrum now....we wouldn't want ya to get to likin it er anything like that. Next thing you'll be wantin to get Bayrum AS and Barum Balms and then it will be bad.......Not that has happened to any of us here...cause we got superhuman powers of will against such things and all y'know...heh.....
Well I bought a Bay Rum and had to give it away. It smelt just like a head-shop to me... that was my first take. It was when it reminded me of an ex-hippy, incense burning, lover of mine, that I really had to Pif it away... YMMV.
Acca Kappa's 1869 to me -> really smells like almonds with maybe a hit of cherry, and just lathers like a king for me.

I love the stuff and the aftershave is awesome as well. If you try some - make sure to get the stuff in the tub like in the picture vs. the tube.

I have Ogallala Bay Rum and absolutely love it. It's definitely one of my top five soaps. I've also had all the Col. Conks and I like them a lot as well. I preferred the Ogallala to the Conk so I PIFd away my BR Conk but I still keep my almond in rotation.
Haha! And before you know it, you'll be doing what I did and surfing threads, forums, and manufacturer's websites in order to make your own version(s) of Bayrum aftershaves. Orange accented bay rum. Lime accented bayrum. Pipe tobacco accented bayrum. And, and, and, and.......Quote:

I have the Ogallala limes & peppercorns, and compared to the Dominica's it is a much richer 'cologney' scent, I hardly get any bay notes from it. I still like it, but mainly for the way it works due to the combo of bay extract and witch hazel.
So for soaps, I really have no idea. But I love myself a good Bay Rum, I use it pretty much on a daily basis.
