Changing Scents with the Seasons

After labor day I cant help but feeling like summer is "over", adding to this feeling is the presence of fall seasonal beers in the stores (my other hobby).

With that said, I was wondering if the members of the SRP community change scents with the seasons? - If thats the case what are some favorites and recommendations as we gear up for the cold weather?

- Lastly Its still in the mid-80s where I live and am full aware I am getting ahead of my self... but hey, why not have another reason to buy more shaving supplies, right? :)

I do tend to change up my shave soaps according to the seasons to a certain degree. During the warmer months, i gravitate more towards florals, citrus and menthol. During cooler months, i use more earthy, spicy or incense type scents. That being said, I'll use whatever is in my shave arsenal on a whim, no matter the season.

Old spice summer,English leather winter.

I use all sorts year round but prefer things like florals and menthol in summer same as Thesus. Tabac and similar get a rest in the warmer months but will be back with a vengance now it's cooling off.

I do change.

MWF, Tabac, etc. along with Pinaud Clubman or Special Reserve in fall and winter. Proraso with some lime scents in spring and summer.

Me too.

Can't use Tabac or heavier scents in the summer so that's for Trumper's Rose SS :) MdC I can use all year round, as I can Creed Original Vetiver or Palmolive Shave Stick. But in extreme heat, it's always Trumper's Rose.

Pretty much what everyone here says. I like Proraso or something menthol or citrus when it's warm, MNS Lemongrass Eucalyptus, or the Orange Cedarwood Black Pepper. For the fall and winter, Salter French Vetiver, MWF, Tabac.

Olgalla limes n peppercorns bayrum for Spring/Summer,Clubman special reserve for the cold months .

I like CO Bigelow (proraso), DR Harris Arlington, Trumpers Coconut during warm months. Mama Bears has a great selection of seasonal scents, like Toasted Coconut or Polynesian Red for summer. Also a great selection of Autumn and Holiday scents. I love the Spiced Apple Cider and Sleigh Ride. Check them out on her website.

Try Mama Bears Autumn Lodge. Perfect for the cooler months. It immediately hits you with cinnamon and then you start smelling the leaves and woody scents. I also smell evergreen and possibly currant in it.:)

Just checked the site and it must be the bayberry i'm smelling and not currant.

Ive heard awesome things about Mama bears soaps, I think im going to break down and buy some. Also came across Mikes Natural Soap while looking for the black pepper scented soap above, any more thoughts on that? What is it comparable to performance wise? I havent used a soap on its own yet, mainly conk's for uber. (Im still kind of new to this, though Ive been using exclusively SRs for about 6 months now)

I haven't used MNS personally so I can't speak to it. The Mama Bears soaps, however, are far and away the best glycerine style soaps I have used. They have a wide variety of wonderful scents and they easily give bountiful amounts of lather without using them in an über. Plus they are inexpensive. Highly recommended by me.

My Favorite Autumn Scents:

• L'Occitane Eau de L'Occitan
• L'Occitane Eau de Badian

I particularly like the first, after a nice shave with TGQ Pumpkin shaving soap, a badger-hair shaving brush, and a vintage razor.

I forgot Crabtree and Evelyn Nomad cream. Nice exotic spicy scent. Good for fall and winter. Its a fantastic cream

I used mama bears Energy a lot during the summer. Last fall\winter I switched to Mama Bears Dragons Blood. I'm thinking I might try out her Sleigh Ride this winter.

I'm currently working my way through a puck of Tabac. I've also got one of Ems Place's Strengthening Blend for when I travel-a pretty nice glycerine soap.
I've tried Mama Bears. Good lather, but I haven't found the right scent yet.
As far as AS, English Leather, Old Spice, or Pinaud Clubman during colder weather. Pinaud Bay Rum and Clubman during the summer.

Autumn Lodge has arrived and I shaved with it, First let say the scent is awesome and exactly what I was in search of. I lathered it up and it was great, nice and thick. It kind of got thin and soapy by the second pass though, maybe im doing it wrong? And suggestions on lathering mama bears soaps? I figure it has to be technique since it was perfect on the first pass, I just need to figure out how to keep it that way :)


Other good news, picked up some CO Bigelow Colonge Black Pepper cologne at Bath and Body works 50% off.. what a steal!

As far as lathering it goes, start with less water and slowly add more water until you reach the consistancy you are looking for. In my experience, there is a fine line with glycerine soaps between too sticky and falling apart. It just takes time to figure out where the line is.

My first post, and I was looking exactly for this topic. I've really gotten into seasonal scents, and that includes my shaving sets and scented candles.

With summer over, I've packed away all my Proraso, tea tree shampoo and conditioner, and eucalyptus body wash for the winter (I like to coordinate my shaving, shampoo, and body wash).

Now I have my Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving creams and wood-based body wash and shampoo for the winter. During fall, I'll use scents with stronger spice overtones (Mr. Taylors, Eton College, Shaving Shop), and in the dead of winter I'll shave with the Sandalwood scent. In spring, I'll use the Rose sent, and then pull the Proraso set back out after that and put the Taylor stuff away for the summer.

I really like CO Bigelow. Their body washes are great complements for my shaving sets. Elixir Green is great in summer when I shave with Proraso's crisp, greener scents, and Elixir White is great in the colder seasons when I shave with Taylor of Old Bond Street's woodier scents.
