I generally use bath and body works shaving cream C.O. Bigelow but sometimes I use a cake of Van Der Hagen soap in a mug.
My question for today is how many of you rinse out all of the lather from the mug when you are finished shaving with the cake of soap. As for myself I rinse it all out when I am done. I don't like the thought of the goop in the bottom. Mack
Yes I rinse it out too... I don't want to be growing things on it otherwise!!
I never remove it. It's not 'goop', it's soap or cream. I've done it this way for two years and have never experienced a problem. The 'goop' dries out quickly and virtually disappears.
I don't bother to rinse it out either and so far so good.

I don't bother, but I lather in a separate bowl, from the ones I keep the soap in, so that generates a lot less ( and much cleaner) goop.
I always rinse & dry it with a cloth, spotless every time. I'm a bit of a clean freak though! :)
If I left the goop in the container, I'd probably just think about it being there all day, haunting me. I like it clean :)
I know I lose a bit of soap rinsing it out with hot water but that's the chance I take.
I wash everything, cup, brush, razor, sink, and tidy up after my shave.
This keeps mama happy and result is that she is very tolerant of my obsession with shaving with the straight.

A member utopia use to remove any left over lather from his brush and mug and put it back on the top of his soap pucks. Said one puck of soap would last him for years and years. I seem to recall saying he had one that took him 10 years to use up.
I find it's good practice to leave your unused lather for your next shave. With a wet brush you can reconstitute, (bring back), a full bowl of lather. You can repeat this process until the lather is all used up, thereby getting the most out of your product!

Yeah, I thought of Utopian when I read this thread too. But IIRC it was 5 years he got from a puck of Tabac not 10, though I could be wrong.Quote:

I used to keep a puck at the bottom of my bowl. When I did that, I left all the lather in there and let it just dry. Now, I lather in a bowl separate from my soap holder and rinse the bowl after every use.
