It is a great soap and I have seen my fair share of pucks over the years - some much stronger than others.
However, the important thing to know is that often vendors don't always stock new or should I say "fresh" products. They may obtain them from wholesalers that have had these products lying around in warehouses and so on for months, if not years.
That's the way it is with our hobby. Products may be produced frequently and in abundance, but we simply don't buy or use them up quickly enough. We are after all, a small community.
I may have to order some to try. Although i promised myself i wouldn't buy any thing else.
Tabac was on my try list for about four or five years before I bought it. When I did I wondered, "Gee, what took me so long." Great stuff, I prefer the shave stick variety myself.
Awesome go to cream! Plus the splash is great but not overpowering!
I've got the puck and a huge bottle of the AS. Love the smell. My grandfather was German and used this all the time (it's a German product). My father also used it. I'm not a huge fan of the soap. If I use it, I add glycerin or use it as part of a super/uber lather.
I love the soap, it's a staple in my shave den, but I've yet to try the cream. I'm sure it's as wonderful as the soap though :)
What I really like about your post is your willingness to give a shave soap another try after initially not liking it.
I can't tell you how often I have changed my mind about products when I have a bad first impression and love them later on.
It's part of the enjoyment of the wetshaving hobby. So many options.
