In your opinion what shaving soap gives the best lather?
All the ones you see talked about here give great lather you just have to learn how best to get the lather out of each soap.
For a soap the is pretty much impossible not to get good lather out of I would have to say arko.
I've gotten perfectly good results with Lava, Dove and any hand soap. It doesn't much matter to me.
Man, you might as well ask what's the best car, or which one is your favourite child? lol
As Castel33 said, pretty much any soap you see discussed here (in a positive way, at least :)) is a quality product. As for which one is the créme de la créme, that's highly subjective. IMO if I had to choose I'd say Martin de Candre.
+1 on Martin de Candre which is my new favorite. Mitchell's wool Fat is my number 2, but it takes some practice to get a good lather consistently.
Out of the few I have tried, Tabac for me.
MWF comes up quite a bit on here, and Martin de Candre, but I have not yet had the pleasure, to try myself.
Arko is pretty fool prof with what ever your water type. A close second IMO is Tabac. Woolfat has been tricky for me. you also can' go wrong with any of the sticks like Palmolive, Speick ect...
I dont like spending alot on stuff, so I tend to find good, less expensive, alternatives. For me, Williams and Van Der Hagen have both worked well. That being said however, those are the only two soaps I've ever used.
Right off hand, doing a quick search, I found a case of Arko for $15 plus about $10 for shipping, so right around $25 a case which is about $2.08 a piece. I can get Williams and VDH both for under $2 a piece, locally without having to pay shipping. So for me, Williams and VDH are both cheaper.
