Recommend two more soaps for my rotation

Gentlemen, I am in the process of simplifying this portion of my life. Yes, even to the point of downsizing my considerable collection of restorable, restored, user grade, and plain ugly straights, single, and double edge razors. I never indulged in soaps as much as razors, perhaps because I started with such wonderful products I never felt the need to stray. I have used MWF, Provence Sante, and Arko exclusively for the past two years. I keep these soaps in very heavy stainless tins that I brought home from Kuwait. I wish I could find more of them, but I can't find anything close to their quality in the States. I've been holding off filling the last two in case I wanted to use them for something else, but I think it is time.

So gentlemen, I am putting this question to you. What would you have me get next? I love the smell of Provence, the ease of Arko, and the mountains of lather from MWF.

I face lather exclusively with an Omega 100049 boar. I'd like to find another boar, but honestly, is brush just does so well, I hate to mess with a good thing.

I am eagerly awaiting your suggestions.

Tabac: Some people don't like the scent, but others love it. Count me in the latter group. It is the one soap I will never be without.

Tabac I think is a must. One of the soaps I use the most.
Another one of my favorites, just for its scent, is Geo. F. Trumpers Limes. What a great scent this is!!

Proraso- hands down one of the best out there- any of the scents!

For sure. If you like the convenience of Arko, Tabac is available in shavestick form too. I use it and love it. In fact, I could probably whittle my soap rotation down to just this and MWF and be perfectly happy.

+1 for Tabac.
Razorock make really good soaps as well
Red Proraso is very nice too

Tabac is a good choice, certainly a favourite of mine. But if you don't mind spending some extra coin get some Martin de Candre. It's my stranded-on-a-desert-island pick, simply wonderful in every way.

Yea, the Red Proraso is pretty nice too. Nice sandalwood scent not too over bearing.

I glanced at this thread earlier and moved on...thinking:

A. Tabac - there is just something about that scent...and it works.
B. Isn't it great that there are so many choices?

Even the more expensive ones are a deal on a per shave bases (though many of us probably have 10 years+ worth of product stashed in the den...)
So far I have only found one that did not agree with me (Arko, I looked like a had been bobbing for french fries)

And you can try soaps that have been made for a century and soaps that someone made in their kitchen or small shop.

So I'm glad that Tabac came up and I hope that your next choice is great...what ever it is.

I like the C&E stuff, and I think it would do well on boar as it is a harder soap.

I also like the SRD soaps - lots of scents to try.

Mostly, if I'm using soap, I use MWF, but you've already listed that.

Tabac is a good choice. Martin de Candre is the Mercedes-Benz of shaving soaps (queue a bunch of clever people now that will tell me Ferrari's and Aston's are better than Mercs...). Any serious shaver needs to have both of these in their den :)

Czech and Speake's Oxford&Cambridge is one of those soaps that we will all miss should it ever be reformulated. Like Vintage Penhaligon's. The scent is one of, perhaps THE, classiest of all the current production shaving soaps and the performance is as good as anything made. I'm a crude man, but when shaving with O&C, I feel like a gentleman.

+1 on O&C. It's indeed a superb soap - well worth getting it in the den as well!

Martin de Candre is a must. Czech and Speake is not far behind. For a bonus, also try Joris.

Here's a few more, DR Harris and Pre De Provence.

Ogallala Bay Rum and Sandalwood is a staple in my shave mug on DE days.

Give mamma bear shaving soaps a chance there really nice soaps. And there pretty reasonable in price

+1 on Tabac.

I like the LaToja and D. R. Harris (Arlington) shave sticks as well.

Mdc is tough to get in the US

i just used seagrapesstudio soap tonight .... not many write ups on it but the orange/cedar/fir is simlar to mikes naturals and they even sent a couple of samples.
they have a great ingredient list and the lather/scent was really nice.

It's not that difficult to obtain (unless they're sold out of course), just that shipping costs are very high outside of Europe. Very much worth it, though.

Most buy from MdC directly; just Google Martin de Candre and be sure to click on the English page. There is a U.S. vendor that sells their products, but I can't remember the name. They are not an official distributor and I suspect they just buy bulk quantities and sell them online. Perhaps another member could link you to their address.

Actually, It is hard to get from the french site. Recently while setting up an account with them to buy some MDC, the address page required a state name, since I'm from the
US. However, there was no place to input the state designation, and so far (5 days) the site has not answered emails about it. Anybody else have that problem?

Thanks for all the responses so far gentlemen. It looks like Tabac is a strong contender for one of the empty tins. If I could find a small amount of MdC, that would probably be the other, but I don't want or need to buy the huge amount of it. I'd never use it all in a decent time frame, and it wouldn't fit the tin besides.

I am using the red one... but I have to say, the cream dries up too quickly. But otherwise a very good product.

Also wanted to know that does Tabac come in a cream version? I am also looking for something new to try, my red Proraso is almost done with. Something in smaller packs would be good. So that i can rotate frequently frequently! :)
