new strop suggestions
I apparently am retarded and have a tough time with search functions, that being said.... I currently have an Illinois hanging strop, and it has worked great, but I want a strop to paste. I am in the market for a higher quality strop, will my current strop be a good one to paste, both the leather and linen, and then buy a higher quality one? I would like to keep it <$150 for the strop but Id like a damn good one. Since I am on the subject, is the .5micron the paste to get?
Thanks

Have a look at Classic Edge, I've just bought their premium 3" English Bridle strop it's really great and it also has a felt piece on the back which you can use with paste or just as it is. It's well below your top price and is absolutely top quality.

One of the Illinois hanging strops has number on it that, at the moment I can't remember, that signifies it as a strop of quality. And many members cherish that particular one untouched and unsullied by pastes and the like. Expensive doesn't always equate as better. I have two old Russian Shell strops that I would pit against any of the so called better strops of the day. Buy a mediocre no name strop to put your pastes and sprays on and cherish your Illinois strop. I just looked them up, either an Illinois 827 or 835 are favored by many. I would expect others to chime in and either say yea or nay to this. It's all in the experience of the user and YMMV.
