    Default New Old Strop

I got a NOS Strop Illinois Razor Strop Company #127. It is not used but it is Dirty what is the best thing to clean it with I have Neatsfoot Oil to soften it up but I have no idea how to give it a good cleaning. Thanks for your help.

Put some neatsfoot oil on a cloth and try to rub the leather clean! That way you kill 2 flies in one blow as we say in Holland. You wipe the dirt off and oil the leather at hte same time.

I would suggest you use saddle soap or a harness cleaner. If jst a little grubby then shaving lather will do a good job and prep the straop to boot.
I use "Effax Leder combi" which is a harness cleaner for use on Ebay/old strops. This stuff removes the heavist grime and treats the leather to the core with out having to wait ages for the strop to dry.
Oils as a cleaner work but tend to drive the dirt into the leather as much as they remove it.

You can also use the Belvoir leather and tack cleaner (available in any better saddlery). It comes in a convenient spray bottle and it provides a great cleaning action, without using water and without leaving a residue.
