Question about pastes ?

Hello
I want to know more about pastes, when I have my strop, what should I put on it for regular use ?(not honing)
How is the DOVO white and yellow ones?
And what else can I put on the lather side? can I put a vazlin or something?
And should I put something at all on it?

If you just using the strop for daily stropping before you shave, no paste should used. Pastes are abrasive and used for sharpening a razor in between honing sessions (for example on a Norton or coticule).

I have no experience with the DOVO pastes but as for the vaseline, someone else may correct me but I wouldn't ever use it. If you feel like your leather strop is too dry, you might try some leather conditioner. What kind of strop is it?

The point is, isn't there a daily strop pasting for keeping my strop in a fine condition? or is it not necessary?
also the same question goes for the linen side

I see, sorry. No, not on a daily basis for either linen or leather. Generally, it is not needed. A conditioning lotion for the leather can be used on occasion when you feel the leather is getting too stiff or dry. But to use something every day or every couple of days, not needed. As for the linen, I don't know of any product to use on the linen on a daily basis and I would say the same thing goes: not needed.

One thing you can do on a daily basis that will help keep your leather supple is to rub the palm of your hand over it several times ( I usually do 20 up and down). I do the same for the linen side though I don't think it's necessary for the linen.

But why do you rub your hand over it?
(Not that it is a problem, it is pretty fun for me, but still) why do I need doing it?

I don't think you *need* to do it but from my experience it (1) helps to keep the leather soft and flexible and (2) warms the leather up so that it helps with the draw. The main reason is number 1.

As for the linen, I rub that to help smooth it out a little, sometimes my linen is a little longer than the leather so I rub it to smooth it flat.
