Synthetic Strop

Last weekend, I picked up a pair of hanging strops at an antique store for $10 each. One is horsehide/linen that just needed a little leather conditioner and beeswax to bring online. The other one is a bit wierd:

It is marked "Baker Universal Strop" on the front. It is about 3/16" thick and made of a material that looks and feels like naugahyde, but soaks up conditioner like leather. It feels as smooth as UHMW plastic. The back has some kind of resin bonded to it, and has indenations in a diamond pattern about 3/32" on 5/32" centers. The back is marked "Vulco-Electrite Processed Hone".

Anyone ever seen one of these? Actualy used it on razor?

Be careful with the Naugahyde strop. They are not made anymore since the Nauga was placed on the endangered species list. That's why leather companies no longer sell.....................nauga- hyde :roflmao

Same problem with the Vegan hide I was working on. Seems that people had an issue with Faux Leather. The Faux are apparantly in danger of extinction as well and using them would not be kind. I then told my supplier I heard about some new type of leather that comes from a beast that looks like a cow but is much larger and has huge horns and balls but he told it was Bull <g>
