So was stropping a few days ago and fumbled with a freshly honed blade and tried to catch it. Not only did I drop it and chip the edge a bit but got a good cut too. I figured out how to post pictures!!!!

Sorry to hear/see that bro. One thing I learned while I was cooking full time...If it drops don't try to catch it. Served me well with straights too.
I strop over carpeting. If I drop I just say a quick prayer it does not hit the molding and break.
Guess you'll have the scar to be a reminder not to try that again
Glad to see it wasn't to bad
I deleted the pic of when it first happened looked so narly, but it is definitely healing up nicely.
I have a rug in the bathroom when shaving. I have dropped my razor once and I didn't think of trying to catch it after reading threads about this, luckily it hit the rug and no damage was done. Glad to see it's getting better.
I learned many years back that if I wanted to count to 21 at bed time; I best step back and let her fall!

This brings up another dropped razor story from a few years ago.
In short, if you shave right out of the shower, put a towel between you and the sink.
I think we all have our dropped razor story to tell especially if you've been at it for many years. I know I've dropped a few.
As bad as it may be it's worse if you be a watch collector and fumble putting on a nice watch and it hits the floor. The last time I did that the lesson cost me $1200.
Yup, very hard to overcome the natural reflex to catch something you dropped. Learned that lesson when I dropped a Kraft Layboy slitter while changing it so was able to stand clear of my SR when I dropped it. You rarely forget that first lesson.

Scarry thought trying to catch a falling razor. Hope i never try. 21. Yep!

That is a definite "OUCH"
Why? thats the whole point of the 'Cut of the Day" thread. Go there and post in all its blood spurting glory!

Chicks dig scars!
At least that's my story
That reminds me of a video I once saw on youtube..

Glad you weren't cut worse than you were. I found myself getting cut a lot, especially doing restoration work. I've now gotten where I'm much more careful.
Much better to deal with a broken razor than an injury that could be very serious.
I like the idea of stropping over a rug - the mat next to my shower will slide right over.
The last and most important point is that we are humans and humans make mistakes. Having grace with ourselves is the way to go, even if its an expensive item.
Glad to see you still have all your fingers.
We all know not to try to catch a falling razor, but I think it be more of a natural reaction than we realize.
Sliding over the bathrug that's just outside the shower makes perfect sense.

Hey thanks for all the comments guys!
Glad you're healing up well! The catch instinct can be hard to stop.
Never tried to catch one but I've never dropped one. Now where is that wood for me to knock on. you know its going to happen to me now. :( should have kept my mouth shut!
A falling razor has no handle.
Razors are definitely easier to come by than fingers! let it fall!:tameshigiri:
There was a fellow I was acquainted with whose business was installing glass panels into windows for businesses and the local schools systems. More that once I heard him lecture his helpers and apprentices that "If you drop a piece of glass, let it fall. It's easier to replace the glass than it is your fingers."
I have since found this to be useful advice.
I have also found that not everyone has the sense to put the facts together until someone actually 'speaks the words" to them.
It's like, "Oh... Yeaaah..."
