I got my new paddle from Tony today. Let me say that it got here extremely fast- thanks again Tony!
1. Like a newbie, I had to touch the pasted side. Is it normal for there to be a good amount of residue coming off of it?
2. Should I tape the spine when I use the pasted side?
3. I use the pasted side just like the latigo side, right?

They all leave here with an abundance of paste, technically a bit too much in my opinion but I like guys to get their $5 worth. On the first few uses a little may come off on fingers and spine. Wipe the razors spine before switching sides. It may also still be a little damp when shipped and a little more drying is a good idea.
Us a very light touch at first until the paste gets tempered a bit and glazes over a little. It will stick and grab a bit less at that point.
One fully dry and settled down a little from a few uses it works wonders. Until then it may tend to grab a little bit. Only use the pasted side when the razor starts to dull, NOT before every shave, that's what the Latigo side is for. Stick with maybe 10 passes at best on the pasted side, then strop normally on the red side, 25-30 passes, then shave. If it still pulls go to the pasted side again for another 10. The red latigo on the paddles has been buffed and has considerable draw that makes up for it's shorter length.
In the direction of easier beginner use and less mess I am switching over to my abrasive sprays for all pre-pasting unless a customer specifically wants Amplex pastes. I am finding they are slower to dry, probably a formulation change and I like to things to work perfectly right out of the box without fussing, adjustment or waiting. Same on my hanging strops...redesigned for easier use and no more adjustment.

Instructions weren't really necessary, I just don't have any experience with the pastes. I figured a little residue was normal, but I just wanted to check.
Thanks again for this great and BEAUTIFUL paddle strop Tony. It really lends everything a touch of class, and the craftsmanship is exceptional.
Update!
I just did about 10 passes (wasn't counting) on this paddle, and all I can say is wow! I took a razor that did the wrist trim fairly well to doing a bbs wrist in two passes. Tony, I wasn't happy about spending the money, but this whole experience has made me forget the money and give you a lifelong follower:bow
