Modified Loom Strop for Pastes

I recently got it in my head to make a fabric band for my loom strop that I could swap the leather out for when I wanted. Using some heavy nylon strapping that I had laying around that was pretty close to the width of the original leather (40mm), I cut a piece, joined it, and punched some holes in the right place and made a fabric replacement instead that I could use with pastes (Dovo red and black, specifically).

It was actually really easy to do and thought I'd share. First is a photo just after I reassembled it, followed by one of each side following the paste application. In the photos the colours of the pastes really come out, making it look like far more paste is on there than was actually applied.

What a great idea. Pastes have a history in stropping - they work. Super way to repurpose that loom.

Thanks! The strapping is quite thick and I suspect that might be necessary for this sort of thing. I'm hoping to get some lengths of 40mm linen and cotton of various thicknesses to see how that affects things.

Nice job. I had only rarely used a pasted strop, and didn't realize how nice they could be until I purchased a Mastro Livi loom strop. Now, it's almost routine to use it after honing or refreshing a blade on my 12 and 20k stones.
