my new strop was white after 4 uses. So i used the yellow cap paste on it and now its a lil tacky to strop with! How the heck you get the extra stuff off? I'm going to tell you that i used half the tube on it, its nice and shiny now, LOL. yes im a newb:gth. Thank you in advance.
For Future Advice.....you only need a light coating of any paste....
But is there a way to get the access off of it? as in water and a towel. Or rub it in more or????? maybe just leave it?
You could try wiping it with a clean rag, say an old tee shirt. Keep on folding it to expose a fresh, clean section of cloth. I'd be hesitant to use any solvents or soap to remove the excess as this may dry up your leather.:shrug:
How about some lather?:shrug: I say that mostly tongue-in-cheek as it seems that lather was touted as the oldtime barber's answer to most issues strop or hone related. And it may even help in removing the paste residue once the majority of it has been wiped off with clean, dry rags or paper towels.:hmmm:

thank you for the heads up, i will try this when i get home, ill do the rag or paper towels. Let me ask you this, when stroping it should not "hesatate" or "drag" correct, should me smooth?
A little drag or draw is ok, but not so much that you have to apply a lot of pressure. How long ago did you dress the strop. Maybe let it absorb for 2-3 days.

ARGH!! I did the same thing. There were no instructions so I put on what I thought was a reasonable amount. :shrug:
For removing the excess I scraped as much as I could off with the back of a knife, then got two cloths ready, one dry, one wet and really hot.
I wiped with the hot water one then the dry one, I figured the heat would mobilize the waxy oily stuff. That did help, but my strop is still far worse than it was before the yellow 'paste'.:mad:
If all else fails you might try some Goop or Gojo hand cleaner and wipe with cloth. That worked on an old strop I had.
Give Tony Miller a shout. I bet he has a solution.
I gave mine a good lathering with my brush, let it dry and then sandpapered (220 grit) it down a little. It will make a suede, then rub it down with a glass bottle until it turns into leather again.
Basically your strop is never going to be the same, but you can still use it and it will work just fine.
