I'm with you on this Kees, the real linen works fantastic. I soaped my linen and it just got even better :)

Quite the opposite really. It makes the linen less harsh but maintaining the quality. It fills in the hollows that the razor never touches anyway while stropping and binds the fibres together to make a smooth surface, or should i say as smooth as you want it to be. You can fill the grain to the point where it is just soap you are stropping on, though there would be no point in that. I have 2 of the cotton canvas strops from TM that are near full filled with soap and with a top layer of diamond pastes washed on the surface. they work great!

Linen will produce a mild honing effect. I use it every time, before and after. Only around 10/20 strokes.
