Neatsfoot Oil/Sides of a Strop?
Hi...I have a leather strop with two parts to it. I've been able to condition it with saddles soap, so it looks much better. But, being a newbie, I don't know what the different sides are for. One side is red and feels kinda plasticky...it looks like paste would go on that side. It's definitely not leather. The other side of that is definitely leather and has definitely been stropped on. On the second part of the two-part strop is something that looks like leather, but I'm not sure if it is. On the other side of the second part, it's SUPER soft and kinda velvety-feeling...still seems like leather, but I don't think it's for stropping...seems too soft. My camera, unfortunately, isn't the best at taking close-up shots, but I'll post a couple pics as well. Any thoughts would be helpful. Also, what do I use to apply neatsfoot oil to this old strop? And how much do I apply?
Picture 1 is red and rough
Picture 2 is softer leather
Picture 3 (sorry for it being unclear!) feels like leather like picture 4, but less smooth, as is evidenced by the raised leather, like embossed leather...
Picture 4 is leather stropping side
Anythoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...
