what kind of leather
I'm a college student and I've worked with leather here on campus before (even made myself a nice tri-corn hat) and I'm looking into making my own strop. Is there a specific type of leather used?
Also, any pointers to the linen? Can they be sewn back to back?

Thick enough to take the tension without being deformed.
Flat enough to strop on, free of wrinkles and scars etc. Not been folded for storage.
With a surface that provides a suitable draw.
Latigo is popular. I made a couple of strops from harder english leather which worked nicely too.
Linen is not normally sewn to leather (they stretch different amounts). Ideal designs allow each to be stretched a different amount (imo), either joined end to end in a loop, or with separate handles.
