Opinions appreciated !..........

Well, just got a new drop of "goodies", including two new razors, three different creams, some aftershave......and a few things that bring me to this post !

I've bought a T-I "extra-wide" two-sided" paddle strop.......and with that, I got a syringe of the Amplex .25 diamond, and a little stick of the T-I strop paste.

I was under the impression that the T-I paste was to be used on the linen side of my hanging strop ? The instructions that came with the paddle strop said to use it on that.

Before I say: "I Do" (ie, make a permanent commitment) to the paddle strop, I'd like to have your opinions.......

There are many types of pastes. Some are designed to be used on the linen, some on the leather and then there are abrasive pastes for sharpening. So it depends what you have. Usually with a two sided strop one side would have an abrasive on it and the other is kept clean as a plain leather strop unless of course you already have other leather strops and want to paste the two sides.

Thanks Big.......Being a little "gun-shy", I think (for now) I'll only treat one side of the paddle......even though I have an untreated (linen & leather) hanging strop in the bathroom.

I sent my first two razors to Lynn, and when I got them back, I thought to myself: "Why can't I do that" ?

My collection is up to six razors now (and growing), and my mindset now is: "I'm going to learn how to sharpen these razors myself"....AND....(as Lynn said in his video), there's no greater pleasure than shaving with a razor that you have sharpened yourself !

Well Big......looks like 60 of our friends have read this request, and you were the only one to chime in, so I guess I'll have to take the bull by the horns, and trust common sense !

I think I'm gonna' treat ONE side of my new paddle-strop with the little T-I "chalk-stick", and reserve my diamond paste for some leather bench hones.....(which I need to buy).

Speaking of buying.....I just ordered a 12,000g Kitayama from Japan Woodworker.......(since "barber-hones" are few & far between, I'm going to consider this stone my own, personal "BARBER HONE" !

12,000 grit ?.......That's about what the old-time barbers used, eh ?

This is crazy !.........I think I enjoy SHARPENING these things as much as I do SHAVING with them !

I can relate to that! I used a Boker Red Injun this morning that I bought off eBay in very good condition, but not anywhere near sharp. After a lot of work (and some hone wear that the experienced folks around here could have surely avoided!), I've gotten that Red Injun shaving sharp. The first time I used it, it wasn't quite there, even by my standards, and it went back to the hones, ending with a long session on my new Chinese 12K. Today it shaved BBS with ease and I was absurdly pleased with myself!

So enjoy your honing, it seems like it is part and parcel of our art of shaving--and not the least enjoyable part at all!
