Hi There,
I saw somewhere on this site to use Lexol for applying powder chromium oxide to paste a leather strop. My question is which product? I tracked down the Lexol Leather Cleaner, Lexol Leather Conditioner, and the Lexol Neatsfoot Leather Dressing. Does anyone have any experience with any of these or could recommend the most desirable one to use. Thanks! PS Are there any other alternatives to this?

First off, I am new to straight razors. That said, I'm a leather carver, horseman and wannabe saddle maker. I've used many leather conditioners, and used leather strops for sharpening tools for a long time. I don't like the Lexol conditioner for strops or leather care. I greatly prefer 100% neatsfoot oil for conditioning strops for chromium oxide, as well as for general leather health.
I'm curious to hear what some experienced shavers think.

remember that when you apply Cr0 the liquid part is just a carrier like in a paint so as long as the carrier doesn't harm the leather and it dries completely and permanently you can really use anything you want. Personally for leather care I like Bick I think its superior to lexol. Probably for the Cr0 I would just use water. I'd be concerned with an oil base that it would take forever to dry and depending on the weather and humidity could gum up again. But I guess a really light oil that evaporates well would work also.
