Just a few more laps...

I started an experiment a couple of weeks ago with results that some might find useful. For years, my normal routine has been roughly 10 laps on the linen and 30-40 on the leather. I thought that it couldn't hurt to increase both sides by 10 laps. I have to say that it makes a noticeable difference in the smoothness and closeness if my shaves. Not a huge difference but it's still a definite step up.

If your blades feel like they are just 'almost there', try 10-15 more laps on each side and see if it helps.

Actually when I did the Grand Experiment a few years back it demonstrated 60 passes on the leather did the best job. Glad you validated that.

10/60 overhere, gonna give 20 on the linnen a try too now.

My routine is, usualy something like 12 and 3 quarters on linen and 1345 and a half on leather... plus a little silly dance while I strop! :)
But when I'm on a rush I do 20 linen and 60 leather... I started with 20 on leather and now I notice a difference. Thebigspendur is right... 60 is optimal: more than that is just overkill. Though I once did 100 on leather when a razor was starting to pull a bit and it kind of put it there for that one shave...

For the record, I do 20/50, might increase to 60 to see if there's any difference.

Based on previous posts, I have settled on 20 linen and 60 leather and have been very pleased with the results. Now, this was about a year ago, but nevertheless, it seems to work best for me...

wow ive been doing 20 on linen and 70 leather, i thought i was being obsessive, glad there are others out there that do the same
