NEED HELP WITH EVALUATION

so merry christmas to me. my gf bought me a new dovo and the art of shaving products (cha-ching). but she also got me a strop. im fairly new with this and i dont exactly know my brands (whats good and whats not). she bought me a Illinois razor strop company-chicago. it has the number 206 too and a scary bull at the top of the strop. on the linen side it says "barbers best" and "fine weave linen finish". and just another small question... how do yall clip on your strops onto your towel bar-holder-thing when theres only a small little clip at the top of the strop?

I don't know the Illinois strops but someone will be along who does. I use zip ties, also known as cable ties, around a door knob and clip the strop to the cable tie.

I haven't used the #206 myself but I do have a newer #827 that works great, and for longevity I have a #835 that I bought in 1981-82 that is hanging off a "brass towel hook" in the bathroom still...
There are "better" strops out there, but Illinois is a good solid performer...

I mean really, how many lifetimes do you expect your strop to last ????

I use a loop rope. This is essentially a thin length of rope with the ends tied together. The rope is then a closed circle. Well you take that rope and loop it around something and pull the one end through the other. You can clip the strop to the end then. Works well and is very sturdy.

thanks. i just used a small piece of shoe string and i never knew why they had such a small clip on them

Back in the old days Koken and other barber chairs had a small eye loop built into the arm that the strop hooked onto.

well you always learn something new!i think ill use one of those big utility hooks; the ones rock climbers use. my freinds use the smaller ones as key chain holders

That will work perfectly .... as well it will make it easy to unhook if you want to past the linen
