I just overpasted the strop. So...what now?

Hello everybody.
I´ve browsed this webpage from many time ago, but I´m usually to shy to post on forums :o , but I need your help now.
Yes, I read the posts about stropping and how to paste the strop, but somehow, being this my first time, just overpasted it :gaah:
I tried some water to get rid of the excess of chromium oxide at the end of the strop, it worked, but that part is not as soft as the rest.
You have any advice on what to do with the strop or should I just buy a new one?

Welcome to SRP. IMO it isn't that bad. If you feel it is too much take a butter knife and run the spine up and down to spread it around a bit. When you strop just use light pressure and gradually the crom ox will even out.

I have a Livi loom strop that was factory crom oxed and it looks like a pool table. Works great. BTW, I am assuming that isn't your only strop. If it is you should have one unpasted for you daily stropping and use the pasted for special finishing. :gl:

point about not pasting your daily strop has been made so I'll skip to the CrO2 bit. You could try making a "wad" out of a soft cloth and applying some Neatsfoot oil to the face of the wad. Then try to rub the CrO2 till it covers the whole strop, i.e., spread it about. Idea N02; Saddle soap and a sponge with as little water as possible and try to wash of the excess. Both methods will require some drying time after for say,,,48hrs.

You are in good shape. Wet your fingers or strop with water and rub the CrOx around with your fingers. It’s not toxic, you’ll just have green finger tips for a day or two. If it does not spread out using water, try a little neat’s foot oil, the least you can get by with. Normal stropping use will quickly spread out any concentrations it does not ‘like’. You will have a very useable pasted strop, you are nowhere near ‘over pasted’. If you really want it gone, scrap it off with a dull knife at 90 degrees to the strop, use a light hand so you don’t cut the strop. Scrub the strop down as described by Puff. Buff the strop little with fine grit sand paper wrapped around a block Don’t worry about any green color left, I doubt you’ll ever get it all out. If it were mine I’d finish it off as a paste strop, you will REALLY like what it will do for you. Then get another one that you will NOT paste, you need one of those for before every shave use.

I just managed to get some of the Chromium off the strop.
And yes, I´m in the process of buying another strop to use it without paste.
I´ve only made 5 shaves with the straight and I´m loving it. Just have to keep learning...:D
