Glued strop?
I had the most thoughtless accident the other day, I managed to almost cut my strop in two, got distracted and did half a lap in the wrong direction on the strop.
Since a new strop costs a bit I decided to see if I could salvage the old one. O glued it together using Cyano Acrylate and put it under a bunch of books to cure all the way trough. The next day I tried it and it seems relatively ok, only a stiff area that is 1/2" long and 3/4" wide. The surface is not affected by the glue, but I am a bit skeptical to the really stiff area. Tried to break it up a bit and it is less stiff now than it was to begin with.
What do you guys think? Will it do?

The bed is made, you have to lay on it. :gaah:
Is this a "super glue" type you used? If so, it will never soften enough because it penetrates beyond the glue line. I would like to know how the strop breaks in after this treatment, can you keep us posted?

I will keep you guys posted.
Used the strop a little while ago without any noticeable trouble.

yes let us know. I would think there will always some type of seam where the cut was. If it works out you might be the expert strop repairer many seem to need.

I actually chose CA for a reason, it is strong enough to keep the leather glued down all the way out to the edge, so there are a really smooth seam. And my thoughts is that the spine is leading anyway,, so a tiny seam shouldn't be any problem.

glued strop
Had a similar accident? Last week but have repaired the strop using leather furniture glue which remains flexible. It has worked really well, finished the process using a pumice stone (as recommended in the forums), good as new!

Actually I can tell you that it works.
My Rolls Razor strop developed a large flake 1/4" x 1/4". Which sounds big until you notice that the strop on a Rolls is tiny.
I used the best glue all in the land. I challenge anyone to find a better glue. Eileen's Tacky Glue. I glued the flake down and wiped the excess off. No problems with the edge. Not sure if it would work on a hanging strop because it is not as Strong as CA but on a paddle I would have no problems using it.:gl:
