Question about my 3" strop

Hey guys, I have my wonderful TM latigo 3". Here's my question, the leather naturally has some small "waves in it" and whether I pull it really taut or loosen the grip some I still sometimes don't get a full contact of the entire edge of the razor. Is this common or is there a trick to keeping the strop really flat? Is that something that just comes with time and being more broken in? It is a fairly new strop and I have not done anything to it besides a nice palm rub down the leather before I strop the dovo. Thanks all in advance! Jeremy-

Jeremy I have the same strop , I lay mine flat with the handles hanging off the edge of the table and I find myself rubbing my hand accross when I walk by it , just because I like the way it feels , my strop is now very flat.

+1 Mike....I rub mine with the palm of my hand. I have a TM 3" Red Latigo. Keep rubbing it with your hand to help break her in. If it's a problem, Tony's a great guy. I'm sure he'd swap it out for you, If he has any, which he probably doesn't.
Tony's always say's not to rub any oils in it I think. You coud try laying it out flat, and putting some heavy books or something on the wavy area to help flaten it....

Good advice. Maybe it's a good reason to spend more time with the strop working it in. Like I said, the waveness is very subtle but none the less there. I do think the more it gets broken in, softer so to speak, it will be more even. I'll give the tabletop rub a try, maybe the book idea. Hey, it worked for baseball gloves as a kid, why not a strop to keep it flat. Thanks, Jeremy-

The laying flat thing rarely works with any strop. Unless a material is bent beyond it's needed shape it typically springs right back. It really would need to be bowed a bit first to remove any cupping. Sounds like yours is not a cup but a wave in the leather.

The easiest fix is always to e-mail me directly for a free replacement of the leather. A few times a year one goes out that just refuses to behave and I glady replace those <g>.
I rarely see the PMs but direct e-mails get caught right away.

I'll have a piece ready to send out for you.
