using a linen for strop paste

i have two double sided linen strops i was wanting to know if it would be good to use them for strop paste like chromium oxide .5 micron or dimond paste .5 and .25 micron or i have aluminium oxide paste 1 micron also. would i get about as good using them on lien as you would using them on leather?
and what would be the best pastes to use, i have been using the chromium abotu once a week then every other week i go up to the alumium oxide just like 5 laps on that then 10 - 15 on chromium, i have not tried the diamond i did not want to waste it if the linen would not be good to use with it.
