I made two paddle strops
I made up two paddle strops. I made one with leather horse hide on both sides.
The other I made using smooth deer hide on one side and pasted horse hide on the other. The paddles are made from hard wood and I cut and formed pieces of wood from an old broom handle for the grip.

I also have a Tony Miller latigo strop and aThiers Issard paddle
strop and wouldn't be without them.

Deer Hide?
How does that work for you?

It seems to work good. I had the deer hide left over from a deer I shot.
It is very soft and pliable and I strop on it after I strop the paste side.
I am still in the experimental phase I will know better in a month or two.

Did you treat the deer hide with anything?

pete s
I always had deer hides treated by a commercial leather processing company. I tried to finish a hide once and I wasn't successful.
