Dovo white paste vs. white lapping paste

Hey all,

So I really like the white dovo paste for everyday stropping, but since I've applied it I've washed my strop (it was getting really gunky from metal residue) and it doesn't seem to be as effective anymore. I'm sure I washed out the paste. :(

It took a lot of the paste from the dinky little tube to paste my linen strop and consequently don't have any left to re-apply. I was looking at the white lapping paste at classicshaving: Razor Strops, Hones, and Accessories and was wondering if that would perform much the same function as the dovo white paste.

Has anyone used his paste? I'm also wondering how many applications would be in the tub, a lifetime supply of paste is preferable. :D

I too was wondering about that white paste. I wanted to try some white paste on my strop.

:shrug: it wouldn't appear so.

I tried the white Dovo many years ago and more recently the Classic white paste. I have been underwhelmed by both to be honest. The Classic brand is oily and translucent and is soaked up quickly on a linen strop when applied. You then need to let it dry out a couple of days. The site claims it does a similar job to CrOx, and certainly there was no harshness to the shave afterwards. IMO it isn't any better than CrOx.

I stopped using it because I really couldn't discern a clear benefit.

P.S. The Classic CrOx (on the same page) is messy stuff as expected, but it is also very oily. It takes days, perhaps more than a week, to dry satisfactorily on a leather strop.
