I got hold of a strip of nylon webbing & decided to try it as a "linen" strop. All I can say is...wow. It's more aggressive and, dare I say, more effective than my vintage linen. After 50 laps, the edge feels unbelievably sticky & grabby, & shaves superbly. Anyone else ever try this? Attached is a close-up of the weave. I'd love to hear if anyone else has had similar results.
So you shave off the "linen?" No leather? Tell us more about the webbing. How wide is it? Where you got it, etc. Thanks :)
I've tried it with webbing. Mine is cotton though. It really does seem to work quite nicely. It worked so nicely in fact that I turned one of my old web belts into a cloth strop. I might get some Mil Spec 17337 nylon webbing and try that at some point.

No, I did 50 laps on the leather after the nylon. It's 2" wide & it's a scrap piece I got from the maintenance guy where I work.Quote:
