Hi Guys
I have a paddle strop on it's way with a bottle of chromium oxide. I have searched the forums to find out if I can use camelia oil to apply the cro?
Does anyone in the UK have any advice if this oil is ok or an alternative as I wouldn't know where to get neatsfoot/mink oil here. Some say baby oil is ok but I want to know as this is a strop I do not want to mess up.

Here is an old tutorial on pasting with the chrom ox. Josh says that Tony Miller recommends Lexol or any other leather conditioner.

Just want to make sure I don't put the wrong stuff on this paddle. In one of the posts Mr Lynn:bow says he is not keen on strop dressings.
I was in your situation, not having neatsfoot oil, or anything like what is usually mentioned, for use with Chromium Oxide. I used Norton honing oil that I bought from Home Depot. The other oils typically mentioned might work better, and that would not surprise me. However, the "on the lighter side" honing oil works well as far as I can tell.

Whereabouts are you in Sussex ? ; I am in Hastings and can let you have some Neatsfoot oil; I got it from the Saddlery in St Johns Cross oustide of Battle.

Russ that would be a great help. I am in Peacehaven just down the road. If not I will try the saddlery in Battle. Thanks for the info.
I used nortons honing mineral oil to put crox on my balsa paddle. It worked very well and spread onto the wood with ease.
