can you make a strop out of an old belt

i have a nice leather belt that is just getting a bit worn its from a skate shot you could google image search it if you want its made by fallen, and its called the "ace" belt... think its doable?

Not an expert, but wouldn't see why you couldn't use a leather belt to strop on, I actually recall some members doing so. I checked out the Fallen "Ace" belts my main concern is the embossing, It would probably chew up your edge. If the other side is nice and flat use that side.

I`m not teoretical guy, i like know its something work correctly. And if i wanna answer to You question. I made a belt from colored fat lether and from ciurlosly i test him for stropping. Belt have a two side in my case good, but i feel when moving my finger on in to choose a outside part of belt. Du that becuse when i move fingers foward and back moves ia have that same feel of "scrachinng".

Then strop my razor, and shave. When i finish i have a strange feeling are that belt was beter from my hand made strop whit natural leather

ya i was gonna use the back side of the belt do i need to do any special treatment? its kinda stringy and rough on the backside

hmm in my opinion that side don`t be so good for stropinng, maybe pumic stone can help, and give you belt a litle flat - but i don`t know that, becuse i don`t try that method only read on forum.

When i make my strop i have a sugestion then lether must be smooth for stroping. And then i choose a that part from skin who be the best but now when i lern whats its flathering stone have a idea that a pumic stone will give a nice flat results - like a Jockeys on his homemade strop.

But if You woory about crash You belt then don`t try :P

I would also agree that it is going to need to be smoothed out with a stone or paper. I think, any bits that are sticking out would do more bad than good. On the other hand the Filly Strop, from Rup Razor, has a rough side that they put Chro Ox on. Maybe that is something you might consider if you can't get it smooth enough.
If it's dry or cupped in anyway, apply neatsfoot oil.
