I recently got a 3" premium 1 from SRD. It is a wonderful strop. However, I've been noticing lately that I can't seem to strop as smoothly as I can on a 2.5". The 3" feels like it twists a little as I draw down it. I also feel like I can't tell as well how the spine is contacting the strop. Anyone else have any problems going to a wider strop?
There shouldn't be any difference. make sure your not getting cupping on the strop. You shouldn't be pressing that hard when you strop anyway. Also make sure you hold the strop perfectly level.
What thebigspendur said. I have one too, and I have no problems with it whatsoever. Great strop, and I quite like its width.
I agree with BB and TBS. I notice that when I pull it taut on the handle I have to pay attention or I can pull a slight twist in it. I have to make sure I am pulling square. That is with any strop though.
I really like my 3" TM strop. I don't experience any twisting problems to a greater extent than any other strop I've tried. Great Strop IMHO
Well, I definitely knew that it was a technique issue, and it is about the way I pull the handle. It made it look like it had something to do with the blade moving down the strop, but that was just having a straight edge against it as a reference.
Looking at it this morning. I think that it is actually because it is longer rather than wider that is causing the problem. The way I have it hung, the extra couple of inches in length makes it much more cramped (tiny bathroom) which is causing me to stand differently when I strop. I'm going to mount it on the door today (lengthwise in the space rather than crosswise) to see if that helps.
I don't know about that I've a 3" SRD Latigo. The height its hung from is just a little above waist level. It really matter of preference OP.
I watched Lynn's DVD and he has it at angle but strop is straight and taut. Although I don't quite remember if his had a handle. Anyway, it's really important you have it taut because you can cause strop to cup and thus nick your razor. Don't take my word for it though I'm just a n00b.
Another thing, I don't have mine at angle. When I strop it's parallel to my waist. Side of my bathroom counter isn't high enough for me to hang the strop any lower. When strop hangs the handle is 1-2" from tiles.
Do some research and you'll find few info that may conflict. Not because it's wrong but it's style or preference issue.

If your having trouble with cupping of the strop, grab the strop with your off hand, palm facing up with the strop between the index and middle finger, then roll your hand towards the end of the strop. This will give you nice even pressure accross the entire surface of the strop, not allowing the material to cup. Hope this helps. Take care and God Bless!
I don't know if it would make a difference in your situation but I've noticed that if I'm too close to the strop(say in a small bathroom) it makes me pull the strop with either too much or too little pressure because of an odd position I might have to stand in. If I pull it too tight the leather curls a tad as it tries to stretch. too little pressure and it sags or rolls. I don't have a 3 inch SRD but maybe you're just not giving yourself enough standing room and handcuffing yourself in a small space, might be part of it.
