I was wondering how to pack a hanging strop so that it is not damaged during travel? I hear people mention rolling i up, but I am worried about ruining my strop. Also, if the strop has paste on it, how to you keep that side of the strop from not touching anything?

Learn the"Bundle Wrapping" method and then just add your strop into the mix. I usually put mine mid way down the pile. If you have a pasted strop just be sure to plastic bag it first. I use a small garbage bag for mine.
You will be amazed at how many cloths you can pack this way and how neat they are when you unpack at your destination.
Your strop will never get bent or scathed doing this. Fully protected.

When I travel with my strop I just lay it flat across the bag about half way through so its doesnt get bashed around.
If its pasted just put it in a bag first, either a shopping bag or bin bag if the shopping bag is too small.
Works for me..!
Maybe go out and get a poster tube, cut it to 24" (or whatever you need) and sitck that in your luggage/carry it on.

I have gone a different route. I don't bring a strop at all. I bring a 1x6 Nakayama hone. 4-5 gentle strokes on this rock and you are ready to scrape off the whiskers.
I know people say you should touch blade to stone as little as possible but I have a blade I bought 20 years ago and it it still has tons of life left in it.
I dunno who did that experiment but someone did something with STROPPING on a barber hone- thats right, 3-4 edge trailing strokes. Can't remember the out comes but I seem to remember it working in a pinch.
I personally just strop on my jeans.
I have a shaving bag and I just curl the strop inside the bag and let it uncurl once in the bag.

The times I have traveled - I just put clip the strop to the outside of my carry on and it than lays flat over the length of the bag when I carry it and this is a full strop and cotton combo.
I have had not issues with travelling with it this way plus it makes for good conversation when someone sees it laying over the top of your bag in the terminal waiting area :)
Just lay it flat in your luggage. Does not have to be perfectly flat, but avoid bending it too much. Its leather, it can take some abuse.

I still have the box and plastic sleeve that the strop came in and use it for travel when I am camping. For airline or ground travel I would just use the plastic sleeve and place it around the interior of the suitcase or bag on the edge. Pack your clothing and other stuff on the inside portion of the bag. The plastic sleeve will keep the paste contained.
