This is probably a bad idea...

I just got my first straight razor (via the classifieds here)

It's shave ready, so I can probably get away with a few shaves without a strop, but I keeping reading how big a difference they make.

Until I decide if straight shaving is for me (I use a DE already), I'm trying to get something to bridge the gap before I buy a nice strop. As I considered my options, I realized that my dog leashes are made of quality leather (my dog trainer has a local leatherworker make them for him). They are a little narrow, but could I use one to strop the razor?

How narrow is a little narrow?

you should be ok without a strop for two or three shaves. then I would recommend a filly strop from ruprazor.com (about 20 bucks)

i woud get the local leathermaker to cut you a strop put a d- ring on top and ues the strop end for a handel .

thanks guys, I'm going to see if I can reach the leatherworker. The leashes are wonderful, so I'm sure the strop would be too.

Does it need to be made of any special type of leather? It seems to me you just want a nice thick piece of quality leather.

Maybe I'll just buy a Filly. If I end up staying with DE razors, I'll sell it.
