today's dilemma :)

i was looking in the thiers issard .co.uk site and i have read a pdf. about stropping with diamont paste.

then i take a look at SRD and see that they also have diamond paste but one is .5 just like the chrom.oxide is...

do u think it would be a good ideea to get the 1.0, 0.25, and 0.5 diamond pastes along with my first str8 blade to maintain a nice and sharp edge for a very long time this way?

is the 0.5 diamond paste the same as the chrom.oxide and should go for only one of them?

is this a good alternative to not honing for a long time?

CrO and Diamond paste particles have different shape.
CrO is spherical, diamond well its diamond multisided with sharp edges.
Get the CrO that's more than enough.

As mainaman says they are different shapes and leave edges with a slightly different feel. I have both and I'm glad that I do. IME sometimes one is more effective than the other depending on the blade and the circumstances. They aren't that expensive so more options are worth the try.

If you are outside of the USA and it is more convenient shipping to get the TI 4 sided strop than go for it but if you are in the USA go for the Tony Miller 4 sided paddle here. Great workmanship and he can furnish the diamond pastes too.

thanks alot for the tips.i'm in europe,and shipping from that site is too expensive for me.just as buying from here.to u think the TI is a quallity piece? or do u think i should go with something else?

That strop is the one I have, I like it, I'm new at this so I also don't have experience with other strops, my impression is that it's well built, good quality leather. It's very narrow so you have to strop in a X-pattern, that also makes it more difficult and less forgiving, you have to pay attention to keep the blade flat and to keep it on top (same as with hones). Hope this last bit is clear!
