The $20 for the strop sounds good, but the $14 shipping is outragous.
If it is a Zeepk, Signature or B&B (yes, they are selling crappy strops under that name now) you absolutely want to avoid it. If it is any mass-marketed strop, it most likely won't be a quality strop.
There are some vintage strops on the bay that might be worth investing into, but sometimes its hard to tell. I recently picked one up that had a bunch of wrinkles that didn't show in the pics. It sucks. It was 20 bucks total, but only part of the strop was usable and a friend trusted me to pick it up. I wanted to get him one on the cheap, but sometimes its worth a few extra bucks to get one that is quality.
I'd grab one from ruprazor if you can't get a starter from Tony, as recommended above, as Tony doesn't appear to be selling his starter strops anymore (they aren't on his website)... I could be wrong, but you might have to email and ask him for one... and you would have to specifically ask him for a 'starter strop'. IF you can get that, that's what I would recommend starting with.
I nicked the hell out of my first strop.
The Ruprazor website says that "All prices include shipping to US addresses. International shipping is a flat rate $14.00.". If the Filly strop is the one you mean.
The way Tony works now is that if you order a strop from him you have the option of adding the practice strop. A lot of guys have gone that route and ordered a great high quality strop along with the practice strop for another $7. When they are feeling comfortable they move on to the real strop. Great system. I actually got gifted a TM practice strop as my first and have since passed it along.
Tony shows a nice strop here for $32 that has blemishes and he sells it for a pasted strop. If you don't mind the blems that is a very good deal IMO. It is a full size strop and quality. If your new at stropping chances are the cosmetics are going to be compromised soon whatever you get. :)
That B&B. Is that beauty and barber. I got one in an e-bay auction with a TI razor. I was going to ask if it was any good. It has a felt also. If the leather is not good. Can i use the felt with the "diamond spray" I think that what i heard.
