Strop Question, Can't wait until Christmas.

Picked up a GD from Jay, and can't wait to give it a whirl for my first shave.Problem: I have no strop but am pretty sure :wI'm getting a TM Old School w/practice strop for Christmas. So, what do I do until then. My Grandfather used to work with leather and I got his kit and tools when he died, in this kit today I found a piece of leather that was to be the beginning of a belt.It is 36" x 1.5". Could this be used to strop? It is very flat and smooth not sure what kind of leather, and not treated at all, could a guy used easton ball glove oil or what? Would love to hear all of your suggestions.

Why not give it a go? I'm not familiar with that oil, but try it without oiling it first, if it is flexible enough. Oiling it will increase the "drag" or "draw" - ie make it offer more resistance to the razor. You want just the right amount of draw that suits you - too little and it will be too slick and uncontrollable, too much and it will be a real pain to drag the razor across it.

Your piece of leather sounds like it would probably work. My main use hanger is 1.5" wide latigo. A second vote for newspaper.
