    Default Stropping

If you read through the threads you will find that this subject comes up alot and there is some excellent information from alot of the senior members . Me personally, I strop before every shave, canvas and then leather, with only the pressure of the razor on the strop, but with the strop dead taught.

Anyways read the threads and im sure you will get enough info to satisfy your curiosity

    Good luck... , simon

Its possible, but unlikely for a beginner. You should strop lightly before each shave. Later, as you get good at it you can do it less, but your results may suffer.

With practice you should begin to sense the needs of the blade as you strop and strop more effectively but it takes a very good stroke, with just the right amount of pressure.

If you want to try it, give it a shot after about the 4-5 shave.

A better approach is to get so well practiced with stropping that its rather intuitive and you won't be hesitant in the morning. Your results will be better.

Once you are well practiced your more likely to have a shot at stropping that will last a few shaves, assuming your beard is not really course.

You will have better results if you strop
    before each shave.

I typically strop the night before and it
    seems to work for me.

Just be sure that you go slow when you
    strop. Speed means nothing.

Speed comes naturally. I started with making an effort to make my movement slow and deliberate, until one day I realized that I was doing it fairly quickly and not causing any damage to the edge or the strop.

I strop before every shave, but I still do it rather slow. I find that when I speed things up, I tend to angle the blade on one side, or will nick the strop every now and then, but I also shave with rather large razors that are a little harder to handle. At any rate, I still strop slow but I make sure its very consistant, and I get excellent shaves. I have tried shaving without stropping and I am not as happy with the results.

I agree with the other posts - read all the info you can, go slowly and concentrate on technique. Practice is good, but if your technique is off all you do is re-enforce bad habits. I learned this the hard way when I first started - I practiced a lot, and became very profficient at rounding the razor edge! (Handiest hint I ever received - keep the spine of the blade on the strop at all times).

Maybe Dovo meant stropping with a pasted strop every 3-4 shaves? Follow the advice given here and you'll be fine.
