But... I like stropping!
i found stropping a very convenient way to ruin the edge of my first shave ready razor :gaah:
I've never shaved with a straight razor that wasn't stropped first and I never will. Those old time barbers didn't strop a razor for no good reason. Add to that the 1961 barber's manual excerpt says always strop before shaving. They do , in that manual, address the controversy between those who favor linen/leather and those who favor leather only. They don't take a position on that. But leather is at a minimum required. YMMV.
iStrop even on days when I don't shave :)
Yes! It seems one must strop toward a shave! :)
Pcg, I'm with you.
I don't think that you need to strop.Unfortunately there are still people in this world that believe in it. It is important, though, that we preserve the history & the equipment of the old timers. Send me the strop. I will refurbish it , if necessary & see that it takes its rightfull place in a Shave Den dedicated to the old methods of straight razor shaving.
Dude... you must be a horrible stropper lol!! LOL - just joking, you know, your face, your answers :). I do some unorthodox things myself! My face is my judge lol. I give you all the credit in the world for thinking outside of the box!!
I have done it both ways - I find the stropping smooths out the blade and gives me a more comfortable shave.
