noob question when to strop??
Hello everyone im new to straight razor shaving after using a Parker sr1 and liked it soo i got a legit straight razor moved on to a broker edelweiss and a paddle strop, and out of the box i did the 25 on the cloth side and about 50+ on the leather side and had the best shave, and my question is do i strop before every shave or shave a couple of times and then strop the straight razor?

Thanked: 3222I think you are going to get at least a couple of different answers to that. Personally, I normally strop before every shave and have never stropped after a shave.

Thanked: 1160BobH is correct...I would at least safely say the common concesus would be every session. either before, after or both.

I would guess most strop before each shave. Some of us even strop after a shave because maybe we're stropoholics or OCD or some combination of the two. Whatever works for you is part of the joy of learning to shave with a straight razor.

I usually do 30/60 on linen/leather before each shave, then 12/12 after the shave to remove any left over hair/debris, etc..

I strop them in the morning, and in the afternoon, I strop them in the evening and underneith the moon!!!!
--But there is such a thing as over stropping (actually its just sloppy stropping after said time). Just make sure you aren't losing form and there shouldn't be any problems.
Good luck! It's just corn syrup... Warm, blood flavored, corn syrup ...

Gentlemen:
Stropping before each shave is a must for me. It's also pure pleasure. I do either 25/75 or 30/90, depending on the razor.
