I cook water for a living. We reclaim mfg. water by condensing it, combining it with well water that has been run through a
reverse osmosis unit and smelt the solids. It's a zero liquid discharge
water treatment plant on a 500+ acre complex that uses 3 million gal H2O/day.
The vapor compressors are insulated to retain the 280 degree internal temp. The insulation is covered with a special fabric called "sill jack" made by Alpha Associates Inc - High Performance Fabrics & Composites ...

My point here is that this sill jack fabric is very similar in feel and sound to a Hess HairMilk fabric strop. I tried a piece on the back of a leather strop and it works quite well.
I am going to send sample strops to selected members to see if they find value in these fabric strops. I will cut 2 1/2 inch and 3 inch widths. I only have a limited amount of strop material.
