I love mine and I would recommend them!
As far as to "is it worth the money?"... I personally think that it is worth the cost but others may/may not depending on what their disposable income is and how happy they are with their current equipment.
Currently own a 90000 as the 80K was out of stock.
Same thing but just a bit thicker.
Love it!
Still going to get an 80K as well.
AD is getting to me.
I have a number 3 and an 80k. I am crazy about both of them. They were worth the money to me. I would politely add that you should be very comfortable with your stropping technique, and if not, you may want to get comfortable before you lay blade to Kanoyama strop.
I have that very strop and I love it, but I'm not a fan of the linen component I just don't get along with it, saying that there are other makers out there such as Neil Miller from the UK and Tony Miller from the USA who's strops are just as good.
Gentlemen,
I have both the Kanayama/Kanoyama 80000 and 70000 and love both for their quality and feel. I love the feel of the shell cordovan strop, period, because of the way the leather hugs the blade. The Kanayama/Kanoyama hugs with a sweet smooch.
I have the 80000 and it is a wonderful strop...very buttery feel to it and the suede component is nice as well. I believe the 90000 is the same thickness but is a bit longer.
You guys need to lose the baby strops and move up to the model 100,000,000. It's made from pre-historic horses, the ones almost as big as Dinosaurs not the nags they use today.
Obie used to have one of those strops but one day it fell on him and it took 3 guys to get it off him. He doesn't like to talk about that.
Shell cordovan strops are a different experience/have a different feel from the other strops I have tried. They are expensive because only 2 small sections of an entire horse hide qualifies for shell cordovan Shell cordovan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Most of the supply goes to high end shoe/boot making companies further limiting the supply available to artisans. Asking are they worth it is like asking if MdC is worth it, it depends.
Personally I like the shell cordovan strop Neil Miller made for me and would purchase another shell cordovan strop should the need arise. Just love the feel of the blade on it. If you nick one they can be repaired just like any other strop, trust me I know, or worst case replaced.
